1. 267 Rantoul Street — Facade Improvement Program and Sign: Organic Rainbow — Steven and
Carmen Kruczynski, 267 Rantoul Street, Beverly, MA 01915
The Board reviews the facade proposal and the sign application for Organic Rainbow. The proposal
includes painting the facade of the building a light green with darker green details. The applicant is
proposing two new signs: an awning sign and a wall sign on the secondary facade facing Federal Street.
Both signs will read, "Organic Rainbow." The awning will be a dark green with light green letters and
the wall sign will have a white background with dark green letters. Neither sign will be illuminated.
Mr. Kruczynski states that the awning will wrap around the corner to cover the window along Federal
Street. He states that the awning will help to unify the storefront.
Bruce asks about lighting. Mr. Kruczynski confirms that there are no lights on the signs. But, there are
existing lights under the awning for safety purposes.
Newhall: Motion to approve the facade proposal and the sign design as presented, seconded by Bruce.
All in favor.
2. 275 -283 Cabot Street — Facade Improvement Program and Sims for assorted businesses —
Thomas and Cheryl Carnevale, Carnevale Properties, LLC, 7 Nicole Avenue, Beverly, MA 01915
Mr. Carnevale presents his project for the Facade and Sign Improvement Program. He is proposing to
change his whole facade with new paint in tones of beige for the walls, brick details, accent trim in green
and painting the existing awning an orange /tan color. He is installing new windows and doors on all of
the businesses and also installing flower boxes under the diner's windows.
He is also proposing to redo all of the business signs so that their look is consistent. He is proposing two
sign types. Type A measures 2'9" in height by 12' in length and will be installed directly onto the
existing metal awning. Type B measures 2'9" in height by 10' in length and will be installed onto the
facade of the building. All of the signs will have a white panel with black letters. All of the signs
proposed will be externally illuminated with a light box across the top of the sign.
Mr. Carnevale states that he will be removing the Cityside Diner sign from the corner of the building and
only installing one sign for that business, which will directly face Cabot Street.
Bruce asks Carnevale to label the colors from the site plan to the color board.

Finch asks if the signs already exist. Carnevale states that there are current business signs, but the
proposed ones will be new. Finch states that the awning signs extend upwards, past the top of the
awning's fascia. He does not have an issue with the sign design, only its size /placement on the awning;
he feels that they need to be within the fascia of the awning. The fascia forms a natural sign band where
the signs may be placed. He suggests reducing the blank space around the letters of the signs, but keeping
the letter size the same. He reiterates that the design is not the issue, only the placement on the awning.
The signs placed directly onto the facade are fine.
Mr. Carnevale explains the signs' lighting. Finch responds that the light box may extend past the top line
of the fascia, but the sign itself should not. The light box is approximately 6" in height.
Bebergal asks about the electronic sign. Carnevale responds that he is not sure if he will seek a special
permit for the sign. He is getting mixed reviews on it.
Finch is not in favor of the electronic sign, Newhall agrees. Finch states that it sets a bad precedent — if
DRB endorses this sign how does the Board refuse others who want one?
Carnevale asks if the Board could support the sign if it was only a clock and a thermometer and if it was
smaller — 3' x 6'?
Newhall and Bebergal ask about putting in a real clock rather than an electronic one. Carnevale only
wants an electronic sign.
Finch is adamant about not having a video screen with changing messages. He will only review an
application of a traditional electronic sign with LED lighting, no video imaging capabilities. Bruce
agrees.
Bruce: Motion to approve the facade proposal as presented, seconded by Finch. All in favor.
Newhall: Motion to approve the signs as presented with those that are placed along the awning be reduced
so that they fit onto the fascia of it with no more than 6" above the top line of the fascia, seconded by
Bruce. All in favor.
Finch requests to see a revised rendering showing the awning signs and their sizes. Newhall states that
she will send a copy of this request to Mr. Carnevale and states that an electronic version of the rendering
is fine.
3. 240 Rantoul Street — Prides Bar & Grill Sign — Michael Magner, Prides Restaurant Group, Inc.,
240 Rantoul Street, Beverly, MA 01915
Mr. John Copeland presents the proposal for a projecting sign on behalf of Mr. Magner. The sign will
measure 30" in height by 44" in length. It will be constructed of sign foam with a black smalt background
and gold lettering. He will use existing exterior spotlighting for illumination. He states that the location
and the size of the sign have not changed, only the colors and text have.
Finch has no objections to the design.

Newhall asks about lights. Copeland responds that the existing spotlights will be used.
Finch: Motion to approve the sign as presented, seconded by Bruce. All in favor.
4. 298 Cabot Street — Facade Improvement Program: Kitty O'Shea's — Albert Lane, 298 Cabot
Street, Beverly, MA 01915
Mr. Lane presents his proposal for the Facade Improvement Grant Program. He would like to paint the
upper story "sag harbor gray" with "tarrytown green" accents. The first floor facade is predominantly a
dark wood. He is also proposing to install new casement windows that can open up to the street. The
existing sign will remain.
Mr. Lane reviews all of their options and why they chose the current proposal. Change colors, going
lighter. Everywhere this is black will be green. Trim will be tan. Painting sign. Lighting will remain the
same. Will do LED lighting on the inside of the windows. Installing new windows, casements that open
out onto sidewalk. Replacing both doors.
Finch asks about the multi -pane windows. He does not like the insert grid, would rather than the 3d grids
even though they cost more money and in this location, would need to be "vandal- proof." Mr. Lane
responds that he will look at the available products.
Finch states that the submitted information and renderings do not reflect what the applicant wants to do to
the facade regarding the color scheme. Mr. Lane stated that they haven't completely decided on the color
scheme. Finch states that the dark green will be too uniform and drab and that moldings and panels in a
different shade will change the look completely.
Finch requests to see a new rendering with everything that they want to do and suggests reducing the
amount of dark green with accent colors.
Bruce and Bebergal suggest using shades and tones of green to bring differentiation.
Mr. Lane agrees to take some time to determine the facade's color scheme and he will return to DRB in
September.
