2012-05-08BEVERLY GOLF & TENNIS COMMISSION May 8 2012 Meeting Minutes Commissioners Mr. Lowd Mr. Ascolillo Mr. Barger Mr. Crandall Mr. Lambert Mr. Richardson GFMI Mr. Dionne Mr. La Pierre Mr. McHugh Mr. Murphy Mr. Page Meeting called to order at 7pm. Minutes of April 2012 Mr. Barger motioned to approve the minutes for April 2012; contingent upon the correction of the spelling of Mr. Dionne's name; seconded by Mr. Ascolillo. Motion passed 6 -0. Finance Report Mr. Lowd distributed the Finance Report; Mr. Lawler did not attend this evenings meeting. Capital Improvement Report by John Dunn Mr. Dunn indicated that the construction is complete on the exterior of the new maintenance building. The interior will be completed by the Public Works Dept. Mr. McHugh is happy with the building and it is in good shape. The Architect is working on the solution regarding the ramp and the multilift approach. The Board may want an elevator. We need to approach the Council; GFMI may support Debt Service; the Architect will provide estimates. There is $130,000 available for the elevator; keeping in mind the items that need to be brought to ADA code; over the next 5 years as long as we have a plan layed out. The lift and ramp; estimated time is January or February including 60 day time frame for bids. We will go to the City Council before the end of June with the report we got from ADA Director a few years back; start on lifts and ramps asap. THE CARTER REPORT (by Mr. Dionne) Mr. Dionne is sitting in for Mr. Carter this evening; he stated that some members didn't resign this year due to injury; but membership is still up from last year. He distributed an updated list to the Commission with 244 in total. He will bring last years numbers to next meeting for comparison. He also indicated that all the leagues have started. The summer months anticipate to be busy months. The forward tee's are raising questions; they may give the golfer a better game. THE MURPHY REPORT Mr. Murphy stated that the pumps are in for the pumping station. The Maintenance building is nice; almost complete; certain it will operate efficiently. The trailors are gone; drainage on 2 is done; doing bunkers now. North Shore Golf talks about the wedding cake hole; asked Eric to shoot elevations of trees. Mr. Dunn stated that they know about the issue and the solution what they do needs to have the least intrusion on the course and surroundings properties; engineering office is trying to design something and there is also ledge to deal with; we want to do it right. Mr. Murphy started to design drainage trenches. THE DIONNE REPORT The Open Day Scramble was at the end of April; approximately 64 players attended. Hoping for improving weather. The LaPierre Report Mr. LaPierre reported that tennis courts are off to a good start. The courts have been reconditioned. The wind screens have arrived; 7 are up and $300 under budget. Opening day is tomorrow, May 9, with the Men's League and they have the same number of events scheduled as last year. The Burt Page Report Mr. Page indicated that they opened beginning of April. There are different things on the menu with sales up and down. They are receiving some bookings for June. He did indicate that last years business is coming back. There are a lot of Funeral gatherings being booked. He will get quotes on air conditioners by next week. He did stress his concern regarding the stucco and paint colors on the side of the building.
