2010-10-12Beverly Golf & Tennis Commission 10/12/10 Meeting Minutes Meeting called to order at 7:00 p.m. In Attendance: Commissioners Mr. Lowd Mr. Barger Mr. Lambert GFMI Mr. Carter Mr. Murphy Mr. Dion Mr. Page Opening Remarks Mr. Lowd indicated that there was no quarum this evening; therefore no voting would take place. He also stated that the anniversary celebration was a great success and put together nicely. He also complimented Mr. Page and his fabulous spread. Minutes of September The minutes of September will be voted on at the November meeting. Finance Report: Mr. Lowd distributed Finance Reports to the Commission members that were present. Voting will take place at the November meeting. Site Proiects Pro Shop Mr. Lowd stated that all the grates accept one are installed. The Front door is still incomplete. The lights and alarms are installed and working. The Pro Shop is open for business. Cart Paths Mr. Murphy stated that the bids are due in on Tuesday and Mr. Gelineau hopes to have things in motion by November 1. There are four contractors expected to bed. The surplus material will be utilized. The cart paths 1 and 3 are critical; the wedding cake hole is expected to work out well. They hope to accomplish this through the winter. Old Site Maintenance Building Mr. Dunn indicated that he does not have all the answers yet. He also stated that any fill from the High School Construction Site need to be tested before moving it to the course. He is waiting for word from DEP on where to ship the contaminated soil. The Murphy Report Mr. Murphy stated that the brush work and seeding is coming along well. His staff is continuing to work on drainage on Hole 7. He is still waiting on plans for the new maintenance building from Dick. He got pricing on electrical fro Dunner Electric; $16,600 which is still under the $25,000 threshold. He also stated that fencing will be moved more to the left to keep the balls away from the tennis area. Mr. Dunn stated that the neighbors are in agreement with the plans so far. Mr. Murphy distributed pamphlets on pre -fab restrooms. Tennis Mr. LaPierre indicated that they are pulling up the tape for the season but will leave a few courts open for the next few warm days. The tape is reusable and they are working on winterizing the tennis building. He feels they just may to replace nails. The Burt Page Report Mr. Page stated that all new window treatments would be installed within the next 2 weeks. The lighting is currently on backorder; expect delivery within 2 weeks. He is currently trying to stop drafts in this old club house. He is currently planning football nights, comedy nights and breakfast on weekends. He indicated that he has booked four Christmas parties. Sales are good, exceed last years. He will be changing the grill room menu for the season. He will be having the chimney flu cleaned before turning on furnace. The Carter Report Mr. Carter indicated that rounds were good in September; it is winding down. The High School golf has been good. He distributed his monthly report. He stated that the economy is affecting play but is glad the pro shop is complete; it adds to the course. Mr. Carter initiated early sign up for next year. He got 15 new members; membership is at 240. He would like to propose keeping membership rates the same as last year; he also wishes to eliminate "weekend play after F. He will type up a proposal for the Commission to submit to the City Council. Mass. Historic Society Mr. Dunn indicated that he is waiting to meet with them; but assures us that everything is on target. The public present had no comment accept that they were happy with the course and the direction that the GFMI were taking. Meeting adjourned at 8:15pm.
