Finch calls the meeting to order.
1. 296B Cabot Street — Cabot Street Nutrition — Matthew Maloney, 296B Cabot Street,
Beverly, MA 01915
Mr. Maloney presents the sign design to the Board. The business will have two signs, one on the
primary facade and one on the secondary; the size of the signs and their design will be identical.
The proposed aluminum signs will measure 36 1 /2" in height by 8' in length and have a metallic,
brushed silver background with green text reading, "Cabot Street" and blue text reading,
"Nutrition." The "o" in nutrition will be an orange logo with white text, "CNS" and a green leaf.
The signs will not be illuminated.
Finch asks about the location of the signs. The applicant states that the two will be placed directly
over the existing signs; there will be no change in sign dimensions or locations.
Finch: Motion to approve the sign design as presented, seconded by Newhall. All in favor.
2. 515 Rantoul Street — Brazilian Fashion — Jose Miguel Filho, 81 Washington Street,
Gloucester, MA 01930
The representative for the sign was not present; the Board reviewed the sign despite this. The
proposal is for one wall sign to be located at 515 Rantoul Street. The PVC sign will measure 17" in
height and 10' in length. The background of the sign will be blue with yellow and green details as
well as an image of the Brazilian flag. The white text will read, "Brazilian Fashion" "Aqui, O
Brasil mais Perto de Voce..." The applicant has also included the phone number on the sign. The
sign will not be illuminated.
Finch states that the phone number is prohibited.
Newhall: Motion to approve the sign without the phone number, seconded by Bruce. All in favor.
3. 234 Cabot Street — The Healing Center (Sandwich Board Sign) — Joanna Scaparotti, 234
Cabot Street, Beverly, MA 01915
Ms. Scaparotti presents her design for a proposed sandwich board sign to be located at 234 Cabot
Street. The polyethelyne sign will measure 35" in height by 24" in length and, when standing, have

a width of 20 ". The sign will advertise the business and will include the website address, and phone
number, as well as a list of services the business provides. Additionally, there are photographic
images related to the business on the sign.
The Board and Ms. Scaparotti discuss the use of photographs on the sign. Finch is not in favor of
using any photographic images while Bruce and Newhall favor those used on the top part of the
sign, but not the larger image on the bottom. The members agree that the sign may look less
cluttered if the bottom image is removed and the text is centered on that portion of the sign.
Bruce also suggests adding the address /location of the business to the sign since it is not located on
the first story of the building.
This leads to a discussion among the board members regarding the zoning ordinance and its lack of
addressing businesses that do not have first floor storefronts.
Newhall will write up the Board's recommendations regarding the use of photographs and the
addition of the business location and submit a letter to the City Clerk so the applicant may move
onto the next step in the approval process.
4. Approval of Minutes — March 3, 2011 Meeting
Bruce: Motion to approve the minutes as presented, seconded by Newhall. Approved 3 -0.
