2010-05-04 City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Library Trustees Subcommittee: Date: Tuesday, May 4,20107:00 P.M. Place: Beverly Public Library Board members present: Mary Behrle, John Kelley, Anthony Kline, Neil Olson, and Kevin O'Reilly Board members absent: Alyse Gause, Joanne Panunzio Others present: Patricia Cirone, Anna Langstaff Recorder: Anna Langstaff Kevin O'Reilly presided. Neil Olson made the motion, seconded by Mary Behrle, to accept the minutes of March 23,2010 as read. Motion passed. Public Presentation None Committee Reports Personnel: 1) John Kelley reminded trustees that the director evaluation is due May 20.2) John Kelley reported on the status of the contract negotiations with director and assistant director. John Kelley presented a draft of a letter to the city solicitor addressing the board's concerns. By a show of hands, trustees agreed to send a letter to the city solicitor's office addressing the board's concerns. Administration: No report. Finance: No report. Long Range Planning: No report. Report of the Library Director 1) FY2010 Budget: Budget is on track. 2) FY2011 Budget: Patricia Cirone will meet with the Mayor on May 5 to discuss the budget. 3) Delivery Statistics: Bin deliveries have increased from an average of 11 bins per week to an average of 44 bins per week over the past ten years. 4) Circulation Statistics: Circulation is up 10% over last year. Patricia Cirone distributed a chart that shows number of items checked out per hour, Monday through Sunday. 5) Inter-Library Loan Charges: Because of the changes in the regional library system, if a lending library assesses a charge to a borrowing library, then the borrowing library will need to pay the cost of inter- library loan charges. Patricia Cirone recommended that these charges be passed on to the patron. Neil Olson made the motion, seconded by John Kelley, to: approve passing along the additional inter-library loan charges to the user. Motion passed. 6) Sex Offender Ordinance: The City is considering a sex offender ordinance that would ban level 3 sex offenders from libraries, parks, and playgrounds. 7) Bookmobile: Bookmobile will soon be placed on order. 8) Montserrat College: College is in touch with Patricia Cirone about using our meeting rooms for classroom space for the fall. 9) Bookdrop: Patricia Cirone has been approached by Bookdrop, a company that sells library discards/donations online. 10) Automatic Reserve Program: New program will start in June. 11) Events: Book Sale May 1-9, Homegrown Festival May 22. Communications None Unfinished Business Anthony Kline inquired whether having a coffee shop service at the library would be subject to public bidding laws. Patricia Cirone will clarify this with David Gelineau. New Business None The next meeting of the Board will be Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at 7:00P.M. at the Beverly Public Library. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8: 10 P.M.
