Joe Shairs, Sheila Field Chairman Richard Benevento None Eileen Sacco The meeting is called to order at 8:30 a.m. 1. Approval of minutes: December 1, 2009 Regular Meeting Cassidy asks if there are any corrections that need to be made to the 11-10-09 meeting minutes. There are none. Bent: motion to approve the minutes of the Commission's December 1, 2009 meeting as drafted, seconded by Fields. All members in favor, motion carries 6-0. 2. Discussion: On Street Parking on Hale Street between Neptune Street and Boyles Street - Sgt. Shairs Cassidy asks Shairs to clarify that the proposal is to possibly "flip" the "no parking" prohibition on Hale Street, in the stretch between Neptune and Boyles Street, from the east side of the street to the west side of the street. Shairs concurs and clarifies that the suggestion was raised by one resident so people will not have to cross Hale Street to get to Brackenbury Beach. Shairs states that he does not know if the suggestion will help or hurt the situation. He says that he asked Councillor Hobin to poll the neighbors to see how they feel about the issue and he has not heard back from him yet. Cassidy suggests that the Commission table this matter and give Councillor Hobin more time to talk with the neighbors. She suggests that this area might be Parking and Traffic Commission Minutes Page 1 of3 January 5,2010 Meeting a good spot for the nylon pylons often seen in crosswalks. Shair notes that the issue is confined to the summer months. Bent: motion to table the matter to the February meeting. Fiore seconds the motion. All members in favor, the motion carries (6-0). 3. New or Other Business a. Agenda for February 2010 Meeting Cassidy reports that Councillor Cronin has requested that the matter of Council Order 131- Prohibition of on-street parking on Haskell Street be continued to the February meeting of the Parking and Traffic Commission. Cassidy explains that she has given Councillor Cronin a copy of the procedures for Speed Zoning for State and Municipal Roadways. She also notes that this document is on the state website as well and is a great resource. Shairs: motion to table discussion of Council Order #131 to the February 2010 meeting. Bent seconds the motion, all members in favor. The motion carries (6-0). b. Signal Box at Rantoul and Federal Street Shairs reports that the signal box at the corner of Rantoul and Federal Streets was the victim of a drunk driver and explains that the light is now flashing in both directions. He asks whether that the Commission should recommend to the City Council that a temporary stop sign be installed. Field notes that there is a stop sign there on the top of the snow bank. Bent states that temporary stop signs for problems of this nature do not require formal approval. c. Election of Officers Cassidy notes that since it is the first of the year it is time to elect a Chairman and a Vice Chair for the Commission. She suggests that since Benevento is not present this morning that the matter be taken up at the next meeting. Shairs seconds the motion, all members in favor. The motion carries (6-0). Hutchinson informs the members that he will be attending classes this semester and may occasionally have to miss a meeting or leave one early as a result. 4. Adjournment Bent: motion to adjourn, seconded by Field. All members in favor, the motion carries 6-0.
