1. Approval of minutes: December 1, 2009 Regular Meeting
Cassidy asks if there are any corrections that need to be made to the 11-10-09
meeting minutes. There are none.
Bent: motion to approve the minutes of the Commission's December 1,
2009 meeting as drafted, seconded by Fields. All members in favor,
motion carries 6-0.
2. Discussion: On Street Parking on Hale Street between Neptune Street
and Boyles Street - Sgt. Shairs
Cassidy asks Shairs to clarify that the proposal is to possibly "flip" the "no
parking" prohibition on Hale Street, in the stretch between Neptune and Boyles
Street, from the east side of the street to the west side of the street. Shairs
concurs and clarifies that the suggestion was raised by one resident so people
will not have to cross Hale Street to get to Brackenbury Beach.
Shairs states that he does not know if the suggestion will help or hurt the
situation. He says that he asked Councillor Hobin to poll the neighbors to see
how they feel about the issue and he has not heard back from him yet.
Cassidy suggests that the Commission table this matter and give Councillor
Hobin more time to talk with the neighbors. She suggests that this area might be

a good spot for the nylon pylons often seen in crosswalks. Shair notes that the
issue is confined to the summer months.
Bent: motion to table the matter to the February meeting. Fiore seconds the
motion. All members in favor, the motion carries (6-0).
3. New or Other Business
a. Agenda for February 2010 Meeting
Cassidy reports that Councillor Cronin has requested that the matter of Council
Order 131- Prohibition of on-street parking on Haskell Street be continued to the
February meeting of the Parking and Traffic Commission.
Cassidy explains that she has given Councillor Cronin a copy of the procedures
for Speed Zoning for State and Municipal Roadways. She also notes that this
document is on the state website as well and is a great resource.
Shairs:
motion to table discussion of Council Order #131 to the February
2010 meeting. Bent seconds the motion, all members in favor. The
motion carries (6-0).
b.
Signal Box at Rantoul and Federal Street
Shairs reports that the signal box at the corner of Rantoul and Federal Streets was
the victim of a drunk driver and explains that the light is now flashing in both
directions. He asks whether that the Commission should recommend to the City
Council that a temporary stop sign be installed. Field notes that there is a stop
sign there on the top of the snow bank. Bent states that temporary stop signs for
problems of this nature do not require formal approval.
c. Election of Officers
Cassidy notes that since it is the first of the year it is time to elect a Chairman and
a Vice Chair for the Commission. She suggests that since Benevento is not
present this morning that the matter be taken up at the next meeting.
