2009-10-27 City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Library Trustees Subcommittee: Date: Tuesday, October 27,2009 7:00 P.M. Place: Beverly Public Library Board members present: Mary Behrle, Alyse Gause, Dennis Geller, John Kelley, Anthony Kline, Neil Olson, Kevin O'Reilly, and Joanne Panunzio Board members absent: Kathleen McMahon Others present: Patricia Cirone, Greg Pronovitz Recorder: John Kelley Joanne Panunzio presided. Anthony Kline made the motion, seconded by Dennis Geller, to accept the minutes of September 22, 2009 as read. Motion passed. Public Presentation Greg Pronovitz of the Northeast Regional Massachusetts Library System discussed Massachusetts open meeting law and library trust funds. Committee Reports Personnel: No report. Administration: No report. Finance: No report. Long Range Planning: No report. Report of the Library Director 1) Monday Mornings: Mayor Scanlon would like the Monday Mornings lecture series to continue. The spring series will have lectures every other Monday. 2) Montserrat College payment: Patricia Cirone is tracking down $10,000 payment from Montserrat College to the City. 3) HV AC: Patricia Cirone is waiting to hear back from Mike Collins about his meeting with National Grid. Because of delays at National Grid, no contract was signed last year. 4) Bookmobile: Patricia Cirone is reviewing specs for a new bookmobile. 5) State Aid Waiver: The library will need to apply for a waiver based on the MAR (Municipal Appropriation Requirement). 6) Ethics Testing: The city clerk reported that all city employees and board members will have to take an ethics test. Communications None Unfinished Business 1) Meeting Room Policy: Meeting room policy will be discussed at the November meeting. 2) Community Read: Mary Behrle reported on "Beverly Reads" planning. New Business 1) Exhibit Policy: Patricia Cirone reported that a request was made to exhibit paintings of nudes in the Sohier Room. Patricia Cirone asked trustees to consider the potential conflict between freedom of expression and community standards for art displays in the Sohier Room. Trustees decided that exhibit policy can stand as is. 2) Will Barnet: Will Barnet exhibit at Endicott College, opening reception on November 19. 3) Beverly Bookmobile book: Susan Richardson has written a children's book about the bookmobile. Copies are available for sale. 4) November meeting: Joanne Panunzio asked if trustees wanted to change November meeting from the 24th to the 1 ih. Alyse Gause made the motion, seconded by Mary Behrle, to: change the November 2009 meeting from November 24 to November 17. Motion passed. The next regular meeting of the Board will be Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at 7:00 P.M. at the Main Library. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:45 P.M.
