2009-09-22 City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Library Trustees Subcommittee: Date: Tuesday, September 22,20097:00 P.M. Place: Beverly Public Library Board members present: Mary Behrle, Dennis Geller, John Kelley, Anthony Kline, Kathleen McMahon, Neil Olson, Kevin O'Reilly, and Joanne Panunzio Board members absent: Alyse Gause Others present: Patricia Cirone, Anna Langstaff Recorder: Anna Langstaff Joanne Panunzio presided. Neil Olson made the motion, seconded by Kevin O'Reilly, to accept the minutes of June 23, 2009 as read. Motion passed. Public Presentation None Committee Reports Personnel: No report. Administration: No report. Finance: No report. Long Range Planning: No report. Report of the Library Director 1) Monday Mornings: Most adult programs, with the exception of the Monday Mornings program, have been eliminated because of FY20 1 0 staff cutbacks. But the combination of increased circulation and decreased staffing levels has made it necessary to discontinue the Monday Mornings program for the spring. 2) Montserrat College Classes: Montserrat classes are going well. Contract between City and Montserrat has not been signed. 3) Union Contract: Library employee union contract has been signed. 4) Building Maintenance: Contract for HV AC overhaul was signed over one year ago but no work has been done on this. Instead there have been constant repairs. Patricia Cirone is also concerned about other building maintenance issues that need attention, such as signage in the parking lot and crumbling bricks and mortar. 5) Bookmobile: The bookmobile did not pass inspection and is off the road. Patricia Cirone is getting estimates for repair. Fundraising is at $70,000. Danvers Bank and Rotary will contribute to fundraising campaign. 6) Rotary Dinner: October 7. 7) Aris Report: Patricia Cirone reviewed 2009 and 2010 Aris figures. 8) Events: Digital bookmobile event was a success. Farms landscaping dedication: October 4. Trashfinders ball documentary: September 24. 9) Grant: The library received a grant to run a community-wide reading program. Communications None Unfinished Business 1) National Grid: Patricia Cirone is waiting to hear back from National Grid's commercial division for an explanation of electric bills. She is still trying to find out if someone from National Grid can come speak to the board. 2) Greg Pronovitz: Patricia Cirone confirmed that she will invite Greg Pronovitz ofNMRLS to the October board meeting. 3) Statue: Statue donated by Guild of Beverly Artist is in the downstairs lobby. 4) Not Picked Up Holds: The circulation staff is working on an educational approach to the problem of not picked up holds. New Business 1) Dennis Geller announced that he will probably be leaving Beverly. 2) Joanne Panunzio will speak at the Farms landscaping dedication on October 4. 3) Joanne Panunzio appointed Mary Behrle to the following subcommittees: administration, finance and long range planning. The next regular meeting of the Board will be Tuesday, October 27,2009 at 7:00 P.M. at the Main Library. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8: 10 P.M.
