2009-04-09 Meetin2 Minutes for the Beverly Clean Ener2Y Advisory Committee. April 9. 2009. In Attendance (committee members): Fred Hopps (Chair), Bruce Egan, John Lappan, Robert Buchsbaum, Tom Keeley, Gaspar Simoes (8:30) and Chris TripIer Members of the Public: John Phalen, John Clift (7:45), and Greg Roehr, Bruce Dyas (National Grid) Meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m. . First, setting up a workshop with Metropolitan Area Planning Council of Massachusetts for a "Home Energy Saving Seminar" on April 29th from 6:30-8:30p.m. in the library. . June 20th, 2009 - 45 minutes. Volunteers for manning the table at the Annual Solar Field Day was discussed. A couple of CEAC members will be available for a time on that day. . MAPC Transportation Forum - Chamber of Commerce - Town Hall format, transportation issues with tax - Other - development of information session with MAPC ~ consistent with BCEAC - bike path money - "greening" aspects ofMAPC action item: Hopps to contact to Dale Baerl (Mary Grant' s assistant) about MAPC for a meeting for potential meeting about activities within the town that could be coordinated with the CEAC and MAPC . B. Dyas from National Grid gives up update on NG's position - incentives for increased gas efficiency (boilers) - AFUE comparing efficiencies (thermal); Solar rebates - Commercial side: - new website: www.thinksmartthinkgreen.com; enter zip code ~ follow prompts, will provide estimates of retrofit and refinishing - every 40 def. F return to system is a 1 % increase in efficiency. - heat "wheels" in commercial application (heat wheel: countercurrent flow, prewarms air) - NG worked on library (paying 70% of municipalities - savings in bill; e.g. modern lighting - electric conservation charge like renewable energy fund) - mass save energy - rebates through - ISO New England, non-profit arm (keep electricity balanced across the grid) - ISO money from RGGI, then gets funneled to NG - New program for municipalities up to $100,000 from NG; - interconnection protocol for clean energy added to grid must be >60kw and must tell NG that comes on line. - avenue for outreach - renewable - went over the format for doing municipal building retrofits for operating expense. - vendors are checked before taking on proj ects - discussion of Johnson Control, ESCO (energy service company) ~ payback time . Tripier discussed the Advisory Circular formats - a way of providing the Board of Selectman and the mayor's office with updated information from the work of the CEAC. action point: Chris will generate the an advisory circular template to be vetted by the committee for form and utility - then, production of first circular will be generated. . John Clift requested that Bruce Dyas address a recent article in the New York Times comparing conventional costs of energy vs. costs of clearn energy alternatives. . meeting concluded with a re-emphasis on the action points discussed in the meeting.
