2008-09-23 City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Library Trustees Subcommittee: Date: Tuesday, September 23 7:00 P.M. Place: Beverly Public Library Board members present: Roseann Benson, Alyse Gause, Dennis Geller, John Kelley, Anthony Kline, Neil Olson, and Kevin O'Reilly Board members absent: Kathleen McMahon, Joanne Panunzio Others present: Patricia Cirone, Anna Langstaff Recorder: Anna Langstaff John Kelley presided. Neil Olson made the motion, seconded by Alyse Gause, to accept the minutes of June 24, 2008 as read. Motion passed. Public Presentation None Committee Reports Personnel: No report. Administration: No report. Finance Report: No report. Long Range Planning: No report. Report of the Library Director 1) Aris Report: Patricia Cirone reviewed the aris report, the statistical part of the state aid report. Patricia Cirone provided a comparison of FY2007 and FY2008 circulation figures. 2) Question One: Patricia Cirone discussed the potential impact on libraries if Question One passes. 3) Personnel: A new custodian has been hired. Nancy Bonne retired. A new head of the Children's Department should begin sometime in October. Several new library pages have been hired and are being trained. 4) Farms Landscaping Plan: Construction documents are being drawn up and should go out to bid soon. 5) Fan Window: Fan window at the Farms Library has been re-installed. 6) Lighting at the Main Library: Project has begun to change light bulbs to more efficient ones. 7) Bookmobile: Bookmobile auction is Saturday, October 25. Approximately $40,000 has been raised for the bookmobile. Linda Caravaggio will attend a bookmobile convention. 8) Legislative Breakfast: The Beverly Public Library will host the next Northeast Regional Library System's legislative breakfast in March 2009. 9) Staff meetings: An all staff meeting was held in July, another one is scheduled for the end of September. Department meetings are scheduled regularly. 10) NELA: Reference librarian, Theresa Maturevich, is on the board of the New England Library Association. 11) Police: Police patrols are on- going and continue to be effective. 12) Parking: Library has been working with Montserrat College on the problem of students parking in our lot. 13) Montserrat College: Groundbreaking ceremony is Saturday, September 27. There will be no additional student parking once construction is completed. 14) Programs: Monday Mornings breakfast and lectures, college planning presentations, Anime club, author talks with Davida Rosenblum and Chava Hudson, American Red Cross blood drive, workshop for Northshore daycare providers, teen read week programs, film showing of documentary about Dan Driscoll, Russian Nested Dolls workshop, and poetry reading by Neil Olson. Communications None Unfinished Business 1) Gift for Todd Balf: Library Trustees will give a $100 gift certificate from a sporting goods store and Alyse will provide a print of "The Library at Dawn." New Business 1) CORl Policy: Library trustees reviewed a draft of the Beverly Public Library's CORl Policy. Kevin O'Reilly made the motion, seconded by Dennis Geller, to: accept the Beverly Public Library's CORl Policy as presented. Motion passed. 2) Acceptable Use Policy: Library trustees reviewed the Beverly Public Library's Acceptable Use Policy. There was a discussion of the problem of ringing cell phones and loud cell phone conversations. Patricia Cirone suggested that the phrase "loud cell phone ringing and conversations" be changed to "cell phone use outside of designated area." Neil Olson made the motion, seconded by Dennis Geller, to: accept the Acceptable Use Policy as amended. Motion passed. 3) Action Plan: Patricia Cirone distributed copies ofFY2008 and FY2009 action plans. FY20 1 0 action plan will be discussed at October trustees meeting. The next regular meeting of the Board will be Tuesday, October 28,2008 at 7:00 P.M. at the Main Library. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:45 P.M.
