Place: Beverly Public Library Board members present: Roseann Benson, Anthony Kline Board members absent: Others present: Patricia Cirone, Anna Langstaff Recorder: Anna Langstaff The Finance Committee met to discuss the FY2009 budget. The union contract runs out at the end ofFY2008. John Dunn advised Patricia Cirone to only include step increases in the proposed budget. Patricia Cirone provided figures for a 5% and a 10% increase in gas and electric. NOBLE will increase its assessment by approximately 5%. The City Council is working on a policy for reimbursement for use of personal car. Linda Caravaggio, the bookmobile librarian, uses her car to deliver books to her patrons once a week. Patricia Cirone estimated a $1,000 line item for this. Anthony Kline remarked that there might be a better way to present this. There was a discussion of security issues. Patricia Cirone proposed $25,000 for security cameras. Patricia Cirone would like to re-establish a service contract for the HV AC once it has been fixed. She estimated $3,500 for a service contract. All HV AC repair costs are currently coming out of our budget. She would also like to increase the maintenance line item. Patricia Cirone would like to establish a line item for purchasing equipment. Microfilm reader/printers are so old that they cannot get replacement parts. A new one would cost $14,000. Anthony Kline would like to find out how much it would cost to out source microfilm to have it digitized. Patricia Cirone is exploring the option of leasing public photocopiers. Patricia Cirone discussed options for staffing the third floor. Increase for the entire budget would be 4% or 4.5%. Anthony Kline expressed concern about the overtime budget. The next step will be to discuss the proposed budget with the full board. Patricia Cirone will get a percentage increase guideline from John Dunn. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:00 P.M.
