2007-09-25 City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Library Trustees Subcommittee: Date: Tuesday, September 25,20077:00 P.M. Place: Beverly Public Library Board members present: Roseann Benson, Anthony Kline, Neil Olson, Kevin O'Reilly, and Joanne Panunzio Board members absent: Todd Balf, Alyse Gause, John Kelley, Kathleen McMahon Others present: Patricia Cirone, Anna Langstaff Recorder: Anna Langstaff Joanne Panunzio presided. Neil Olson made the motion, seconded by Roseann Benson, to accept the minutes of June 26, 2007 as read. Motion passed. Public Presentation None Committee Reports Personnel: No report. Administration: No report. Finance: No report. Long Range Plan: No report. Report of the Library Director 1) Long Range Plan: Patricia Cirone distributed copies of the Long Range Plan draft. Trustees reviewed the draft. Neil Olson made the motion, seconded by Roseann Benson, to: accept the draft of the Beverly Public Library Long Range Plan as amended. Motion passed. 2) Meeting Date: Patricia Cirone requested that regular meeting dates for the trustees meeting be changed. Joanne Panunzio made the motion, seconded by Roseann Benson, to: change the regular meeting date of the library trustees meeting to the 4th Wednesday of the month until the end of December, pending approval of absent Board members. Motion passed. 3) Todd Balf: Todd Balfwill be leaving the Board. 4) Bookmobile Fundraising: Approximately $6,000 has been raised for the bookmobile. The Boston Globe will be writing an article about the bookmobile. Patricia Cirone has applied for two grants. Upcoming fundraisers: Hollywood Librarian film, pancake breakfast, and McKeown School read-a-thon. 5) Budget: Current budget looks good. Over-time budget is impacted by DPW employees covering while one of the library custodians is out on workman's compensation. 6) Sunday Attendance: Patricia Cirone reviewed Sunday attendance numbers. 7) NOBLE: Patricia Cirone has been asked to serve on the NOBLE executive board. She continues to serve on NOBLE's electronic resources committee. 8) Summer Reading: The summer reading program was very successful. The Young Adult librarian increased teen programming this summer 9) Upcoming Programs: Robert Siegel author talk, Hollywood Librarian, Naked Quaker, Book Sale (November 17-25). 10) Staffing: Still interviewing for part-time children's position. Full-time circulation position has been filled. Head of reference department is out for 6-8 weeks. 11) Police: Patricia Cirone met with the Chief of Police. The police are aware of the need for regular patrols. There have been several incidents requiring help from the police. 12) Building Issues: Employees of the Department of Public Services sealed roof seams. A private company has started HV AC work. Push button handicapped doors have been installed at the Main Library and the Farms Branch. Library staff is working on better signage for the third floor. Communications Invitation received for the Greater Beverly YMCA annual recognition event on October 11, 2007. Unfinished Business None New Business 1) Internet Policy and Acceptable Use Policy will be reviewed at the next meeting. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:05 PM.
