2007-03-27 City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Library Trustees Subcommittee: Date: Tuesday, March 27,2007 7:00 P.M. Place: Beverly Public Library Board members present: Todd Balf, Roseann Benson, Alyse Gause, John Kelley, Anthony Kline, Kathleen McMahon, Neil Olson, Kevin O'Reilly, and Joanne Panunzio Board members absent: Others present: Patricia Cirone, Anna Langstaff, John Murray Recorder: Anna Langstaff Todd Balf presided. Neil Olson made the motion, seconded by Anthony Kline to accept the minutes of the Long Range Planning Committee of February 27,2007 as read. Motion passed. Neil Olson made the motion, seconded by Roseann Benson, to accept the minutes of the regular meeting of February 27,2007 as read. Motion passed. Public Presentation John Murray answered questions regarding his proposed donation of the King's Grant gazebo to the Beverly Farms Library. Election of Officers Neil Olson made the motion, seconded by Alyse Gause, to nominate Joanne Panunzio as Chair. Joanne Panunzio accepted the nomination. Motion passed. Neil Olson made the motion, seconded by Joanne Panunzio, to nominate John Kelley as Secretary. John Kelley accepted the nomination. Motion passed. Administration: No report. Finance: No report. Long Range Planning: Alyse Gause reported that the surveys will be mailed out as soon as the stuffing job is completed. Once the results have been tallied, Alyse Gause suggested that teams of trustees work on writing different sections of the long range plan. Report of the Library Director 1) Sinkhole: Public work has fixed 7ft. deep sinkhole in the parking lot. 2) Skateboarders: The police arrested a skateboarder last week. 3) Security Issues: Patricia Cirone discussed several security and safety issues at the library. Police have been contacted about possible illegal activity in the library. 4) Newspaper article: Patricia Cirone distributed Salem News article on the library's downloadable audios. 5) Marketing Workshops: Patricia Cirone will receive professional training on how to develop a marketing plan using professional marketing techniques. 6) Barnes and Noble Event: Patricia Cirone distributed Barnes and Noble vouchers and calendar of events for April 20/21. 7) Downloadable Video: Downloadable video trial has begun. 8) Potluck Supper and Movie: Showing of "Inconvenient Truth" was a great success. Approximately 1 00 people attended. The Library will show this movie again during school vacation week. 9) Other Library Programs: Showing of "Happy Feet" during school vacation, more genealogy programs, writing workshop. 10) LSTA Grant: Patricia Cirone reported that she has submitted LSTA grant. Communications None Unfinished Business 1) Proposed Gazebo: The trustees discussed Mr. Murray's proposal to donate the King's Grant gazebo to the Beverly Farms Library. Kevin O'Reilly made the motion, seconded by John Kelley, to: Accept the proposal by Mr. Murray for the gazebo at the Beverly Farms Branch Library. Olson abstains, all other members voting against. Motion fails. On behalf of the trustees, Todd Balfwill draft a letter to Mr. Murray declining his proposed donation. 2) Lou Jones Event: April 12, 2007. 3) Helga Senko: As a gift for Helga Senko, Alyse Gause offered to photograph the library this spring. New Business None The Finance Committee will meet Wednesday, April 4, 2007 at 6:00 P.M. at the Main Library. The regular meeting of the Board will be Tuesday, April 24 at 7:00 P.M. at the Main Library. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:00 P.M.
