2006-04-20 COMMISSION ON DISABILITIES Beverly City Hall 191 Cabot Street Beverly, MA 01915 MINUTES OF MEETING April 20, 2006 Members Present: Elise Bernstein, Karen Bloodgood, Kevin Gallant co-chair, Candace Pike co- chair Members Absent: Jack Vickery, Bob Nelson Ex Officio Members: Todd Bloodgood and Arthur Daignault Guest(s): Michele Gordon Report from ADA Coordinator: ?? Art Daignault e-mailed Ann Marie Casey of Beverly Main Street regarding recognition of local businesses that are disabled friendly. ?? Frank Killilea has suggested naming the sidewalk on Lothrop Street after Norm Ganley. ?? Regional meeting of commissions scheduled for Sept. 27, 2006 from 12-3pm and CAM training for May 16 & 17 2007, both will be held at the public library. ?? Parking surveys are going very well Art is aiming for June 1 to send out letters. ?? North Beverly plaza got the permit from mass highway to fix the ramp by Blockbuster. ?? Nancy Brusil of the School Committee informed Art Daignault that they will be putting up better lighting and signage at Memorial School for night meetings ?? Art Daignault will be meeting with the head of the Consortium School to discuss the use of the Memorial School ?? Mayor Scanlon is going to submit Michele Gordon’s name as a replacement for Norm Ganley. Old Business: ?? The Cummings center walkway is in the process of being finished. ?? Art Daignault will be setting-up a meeting with Beverly Hospital regarding the parking garage. ?? Candace Pike reports that Stop & Shop on Elliott Street is doing very well. Aisle 5 is the designated handicapped aisle and is always open. ?? Kevin Gallant reports that he is working on the web site and that it is going to take some time. He will be adding links and announcements shortly. New business: ?? Art Daignault and Candace Pike met with Solar Now’s Stella Mae Seamans and Fred Hopps. They wanted some ideas about how to make the solar area at the high school accessible. It will be difficult due to the slope of the land. They have asked for Art’s help with grant writing to get the money to pay for those renovations. ?? The entrance for the new Dunkin Donuts in Beverly Farms is on the street side. Art Daignault is going to look at the plans ?? Art Daignault looked at the plans for Beverly National Bank branch in North Beverly. There will be two teller windows and the counters are lower. The safety deposit boxes will be accessible. Next meeting – Thursday, June 15, 2006 at 7:00 pm, 3rd floor of City Hall.
