Todd Balf presided.
Alyse Gause made the motion, seconded by Neil Olson, to accept the minutes of the Long Range
Planning Committee of June 27, 2006 as read. Motion passed.

Personnel: No report.
Administration: No report.
Finance: No report.
Long Range Planning: Alyse Gause reported that the long range planning committee met on
Tuesday, September 26. She reported that trustees discussed the type of survey to be conducted
this fall and summarized key points from interviews that were conducted over the summer with
various city personnel.
Report of the Library Director
1) Main Library Building Issues: Waiting for skylight repair proposal. Front steps have been re-
grouted. Alarm box panel has been fixed. Lights and ballasts in front reading rooms on second
floor have been checked and rewired as necessary. Eventually a better fix may be required. 2)
Farms Branch Building Issues: The grouting in front steps has been fixed. Mold in kitchen has
been taken care of, although a small fan may need to be installed to provide ventilation. Leak in
the story hour room has been fixed. Still investigating leak in the front reading room. Vine Street
entrance has been closed because of problems with the fan window. 3) Handicapped Access:
Patricia Cirone is investigating push button handicapped access for entrance doors at the Main
Library and the Farms Branch. 4) Flood Lights: Flood lights at Main Library were stolen. 5)
Trust Funds: Patricia Cirone reported that she met with John Dunn to discuss the trust funds. 6)
Bookmobile: Patricia Cirone would like to move forward with exploring ways to raise funds to
replace the bookmobile. 7) Library Programs: Suzanne Brockmann event was very successful.
Julia Fox Garrison is coming September 28. Julie Spencer-Fleming, a mystery writer, will be
coming in November. Farms and Main Library summer reading programs were well attended. 8)
Wooden Chairs: Chair manufacturer will provide the library with 85 new chairs at no cost to
replace the ones that are falling apart. 9) Staffing: Replacement for Jocelyn Tavares is being
hired. To help with staffing shortage since Jo-Ann Roy left in August, a temp librarian has been
hired. 10) Thefts and other incidents: Several bicycles and scooters were stolen from the library
during the summer. There have been many problems with skateboarders at the library. Patricia
Cirone will talk to the police chief about getting more of a police presence at the library. 11)
ARIS report: Patricia Cirone distributed copies of the state ARIS report. She also noted that the
Bookmobile circulation increased by 14%, overall book circulation increased 4%, CD circulation
increased 46%, DVD circulation increased 25%, and overall circulation increased 10%. 12)
NOBLE PC Service: NOBLE PC maintenance service has started. 13) Eaudiobooks: There has
been a good response to the library’s new eaudiobooks.
