Joanne Panunzio presided.
Neil Olson made the motion, seconded by Alyse Gause, to accept the minutes of May 23, 2006 as
read. Motion passed.

Personnel: No report.
Administration: No report.
Finance: No report.
Long Range Planning: Alyse Gause reported that the long range planning committee met on
Tuesday, June 27 and a decision was made to interview specific individuals within various city
functions in order to gather information to help trustees create a targeted survey.
Report of the Library Director
1) Budget: FY06 budget is on track. 2) Tappe Proposal: The leak in the fiction area is caused by
the skylight not the roof, although the roof does need some maintenance to avoid future
problems. Tappe Associates has submitted a proposal to oversee the skylight repair. Tappe
Associates also submitted a proposal to oversee the repair of the masonry and steps at the front of
the building. 3) Farms Front Stairs: Grout is coming out and needs to be repaired. 4) Farms Roof
Leaks: Still trying to solve roof leaks at the Farms. 5) Staffing: Liz Manning is the new young
adult librarian. Jocelyn Tavares, assistant adult services librarian, will be leaving the end of July.
6) Statistics: Patricia Cirone reviewed Scholastic survey tracking children’s reading. She also
reviewed the library’s circulation and reference statistics. 7) Programs: New York Times best-
selling author, Suzanne Brockmann, will be coming to the library on September 12. Concert on
the Common, sponsored by the Friends, will be July 20. 8) Eaudiobooks: The library has signed a
contract with NetLibrary for downloadable audio books. 9) Massachusetts Board of Library
Commissioners: MBLC is looking for committee members to review the State Aid to Public
Libraries program. 10) Public Library Trustee Orientation: Northeast Massachusetts Regional
Library System is conducting an orientation for public library trustees on September 19. 11)
Essex National Heritage Commission: The Library has received an award from the ENHC.

Long Range Planning Committee will meet on Tuesday, September 26 at 6:30 P.M. at the Main
Library.
The next regular meeting of the board will be Tuesday, September 26, 2006 at 7:00 P.M. at the
Main Library.
