MINUTES OF MEETING
WAR MEMORIAL ADVISORY COMMITTEE
SEPTEMBER 7, 2006
ROLL CALL: Present: Jake Petronzio, Russ Hadley, Jerry Guilebbe, George Casey
Minutes of previous meeting:
The minutes of the July meeting were read and accepted.
Communications:
There were no communications
Old Business:
Jake Petronzio has spoken to Bruce Lane who has worked with the committee before on
plaques for Veterans Memorials @ Odell Park. A meeting will to scheduled this month to
formulate a design for the additional plaques and layout of the area around the Bell
Tower. Jake will bring his findings to the Committee next month for discussion.
Jerry Guilebbe will work with the Veterans Council to start on the document that will
detail everything that needs to be handled for services when a veteran passes away.
Jake also mentioned that we have not yet sent a formal request to the Mayor to add Tim
Smith and Chuck Clark as members of the War Memorial Advisory Committee. Jerry
Guilebbe will send the request to the Mayor next week.
Jake also asked that we table the adding of a replacement for Doug Henderson until next
month, this was seconded and unanimously accepted.
Jerry Guilebbe updated the move of the veterans groups to Memorial, as it stands the
current room that now has the building department storage files will be cleaned out and
that room will be ours to use. This topic became a long debate, with all looking to get this
accomplished before the end of September. George stated that this has been going on
now for almost a year.
Jake Petronzio asked if we could fond out when the handicap accessibility to the Veterans
Park will be completed, it would be great to have it completed before Veterans Day,
again much discussion on this and without this walkway and curb cut fixed, we will not
be able to continue with the improvements to the park, Russ asked if we could get an
answer from Mike Collins when this work will be start and completed.
New Business:
Jerry Guilebbe spoke about the discussion that took place at the Vietnam Veterans
Meeting last night and some problems with the ROTC program. There seems to be lack
of support from the High School Administrators for the program. The discussion went on
for ½ hour; before the group decided that we obtain more information, speak with Major
Flores, and Superintended Dr. Hayes.
Jake Petronzio spoke about the Plaque that is in the Library for Joe Vittori he would like
to see moved to a location that can be easily seen, he would like to speak to the Library
Director, Pat Cirone. Jerry Guilebbe made a motion that Jake speaks to Pat Cirone, the
group unanimously approved.
Historical:
Jake Petronzio will schedule a meeting with Bruce Lane for the new plaques for the park
that will commemorates all wars.
Building and Grounds:
Russ Hadley again had concerns about the trees at Veterans Memorials at Odell Park,
much discussion on this issue. It was then decided we table this until Tim Smith returns
from vacation.
Motion to adjourn was made by Russ Hadley, seconded by Jerry Guilebbe, motion passed
and the meeting was adjourned at 10:25 am.
