MINUTES OF MEETING
WAR MEMORIAL ADVISORY MEETING
JUNE 1, 2006
Roll Call
: Present: Jake Petronzio; Tim Smith; Russ Hadley; Jerry Guilebbe
Minutes of previous meeting:
The minutes of the May meeting were reviewed. Motion was made to accept the minutes
on the May meeting; the motion was unanimously accepted as read.
Communication
:
There were no communications
Old Business:
Jake asked to speak on the Memorial Day Program, He thought that overall that the
Parade and service at Veterans Memorials at Odell Park went off very well, his only
comment was the failure of not ringing the bell. A discussion on this took place and we
all agreed that the Beverly Veterans Council needs to come up with a written document
that will list the items that need to be taken care of before the Services, during the
services and after the services so nothing is either missed or done incorrectly.
Jerry Guilebbe also made note that the flags at the park were still at half-staff at the
playing of the National Anthem, this was NO NO.
Jake also brought up under old business that a formal letter be sent to the Mayor adding
Tim Smith and Chuck Clark to the committee, and with the passing of Doug Henderson
we have him removed from the committee, George Casey made it known that we are
still1 board member short, Jake asked to table this until next meeting so we can come up
with some names for review, the motion was seconded and unanimously accepted.
Also under old business George Casey asked about the move to Memorial, A discussion
started and Jerry Guilebbe said that after the 4 of July he will speak with the Bob Nelson
about cleaning out the area where the building department has all their records stored.
Chris Rand has offered to give the building department the rooms across from were they
are now on the lower level. There may be a little problem with getting them to move but
we plan on having a meeting with them to discuss the move. As stated before we would
like to be in Memorial at the end of the summer.
Tim Smith opened up a discussion on the benches at Veterans Memorials at Odell Park,
the benches have been completed by the North Shore Vocational School in Middleton at
a cost of $300.00 each, which will include a plaque for the organizations that have
donated. So far we have only received a commitment from the VFW #545 and Michale J.
Cardigan Post 46 Beverly Farms.
Jake Petronzio made a motion we ask Michael Collins the Cities Public Works
Commissioner when and if the walk way at Veterans Memorials at Odell Park will be
handicap accessible, it was seconded and voted on to contact Mike Collins and ask when
he has this work scheduled.
Standing Committees:
Historical:
Jake Petronzio and Russ Hadley reported that they are looking into plaques to
commemorate all the wars. They will report back at next months meeting.
Building and Grounds:
Russ Hadley had a concern about the trees at Veterans Memorials at Odell Park; Tim
Smith responded that maybe we can look into trimming the trees at some point. It was
tabled at this time; Tim would take up the action to see if it is feasible to trim the trees.
Finance:
Jerry Guilebbe made a motion to make a donation to the Vietnam Veterans for the new
memorial on the Beverly Hospital grounds; Jake thought it was not a good idea that
money from a city budget be donated to a memorial on Hospital Grounds. Jerry Guilebbe
removed the motion from the table. It was recommended that we ask the Veterans
Organizations that comprise the Beverly Veterans Council for donations.
A motion was made by Tim Smith and seconded by Jake Petrinzio to adjourn. Motion
passed.
Adjourned 10:30 a.m.
Respectfully Submitted,
Jerry Guilebbe
Secretary of the Commission
