2006-01-24 City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Library Trustees Subcommittee: Date: January 24, 2006 7:00 PM Place: Beverly Public Library Board members present: Todd Balf, Alyse Gause, John Kelley, Kathleen McMahon, Neil Olson, Kevin O’Reilly, and Joanne Panunzio Board members absent: Helga Senko Others present: Anna Langstaff Recorder: Anna Langstaff Todd Balf presided. Neil Olson made the motion, seconded by John Kelley, to accept the minutes of the Ad Hoc Search Committee of December 12, 2005 as read. Motion passed. Neil Olson made the motion, seconded by John Kelley, to accept the minutes of the Ad Hoc Search Committee of December 14, 2005 as read. Motion passed. Neil Olson made the motion, seconded by John Kelley, to accept the minutes of the Ad Hoc Search Committee of December 19, 2005 as read. Motion passed. Neil Olson made the motion, seconded by John Kelley, to accept the minutes of the Ad Hoc Search Committee of December 29, 2005 as read. Motion passed. Public Presentation None Committee Reports Personnel: Joanne Panunzio reported that Howard Curtis’name has been sent on to City Hall. Official offer letter and contract needs to be drawn up. Administration: No report. Finance: Kathleen McMahon reported that the finance committee met on January 20, 2006 and reviewed a preliminary FY07 library budget that included 2 different versions, one with Sunday hours and one without Sunday hours. The finance committee came up with some suggestions and offered justifications for some increases that are needed. Long Range Planning: No report. Report of the Acting Library Director 1) State Aid: The Beverly Public Library will receive $47,000 in state aid. This money is pledged to the City for the Beverly Farms Library construction project. 2) FY2006 Budget: Anna Langstaff distributed copies of the FY2006 budget. Overtime budget is almost totally spent. 3) Newspaper article: Anna Langstaff distributed a copy of a Christian Science Monitor article, Libraries as Places to Linger and Mingle. 4) City Solicitor: Communication from Beverly City Solicitor was distributed regarding open meeting law, written requests for information, and when to contact their office. 5) Library Webpage: Jo-Ann Roy, assistant reference librarian, is updating the library webpage. 6) Donations: $5,000 received from Jackson Foundation for Farms Library children’s programs, $221,000 received from Louisa Conrad Estate for Farms Library landscaping, and $10,000 bequest from Susan DiLorenzo estate. 7) Farms Library: There are still roof leaks at the Farms. 8) Reference Room Chairs: Chairs are falling apart. The Friends are looking for ways to replace the broken chairs. 9) New Board member: There are two people interested in joining the Board. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:10 PM.
