2006-03-02 CITY OF BEVERLY, MASSACHUSETTS PUBLIC MEETING MINUTES BOARD OR COMMISSION: Design Review Board SUBCOMMITTEE: DATE: March 2, 2006 LOCATION: Third Floor, City Hall MEMBERS PRESENT: Colleen Bruce, Douglas Haring, William Finch MEMBERS ABSENT: Leah Zambernardi RECORDER: Diane Presutti Bruce calls the meeting to order at 6:40 p.m. 1. Cherry Hill Corporate Center – Andrew Clark/145 Conant St./Signs Mr. Andrew Clark from Expose’ Signs and Jerome Kyllingstad from National Development approach the Board with two sign designs for two different locations in the Cherry Hill Industrial Park (now to be called Cherry Hill Corporate Center). The first sign will be located at the intersection of Cherry Hill Drive and Conant Street, be 30 sq. ft. in size, and internally illuminated with halo lighting. The second sign is located further into the Center and is there by virtue of a variance granted by the Board of Appeals years ago. They are seeking approval from the Design Review Board before applying for a modification to the existing variance for the sign. This sign will be 32 sq. ft. in size, internally illuminated with blue with white lettering, and an opaque face. Clark and Kyllingstad state that they would re-landscape the areas around the base of each signs. Haring : motion to approve sign #1 as presented, seconded by Finch. All in favor, no one opposed. Motion carries 3-0. Haring : motion to approve the design of sign #2, contingent upon approval from the Zoning Board of Appeals authorizing a change in the terms of the previously-granted variance, seconded by Bruce. All members in favor, no one opposed. Motion carries 3-0. 2. Salem Five – Jeffrey Sarra/4 Colon Street/Sign Jeff Sarra from Batten Brothers Sign and Nicholas Caparole of Salem Five present a design for a sign be displayed at the old Heritage Bank location on Colon Street. They state that the signs will be temporary, PMS 294 background with vinyl graphics, and the cabinet will go from bronze to blue. Haring : motion to approve the design of the sign as presented, seconded by Bruce. All members in favor, no one in opposition. Motion carries 3-0. 3. American Renal Associates - Joe Carlucci/66Cherry Hill Drive/Sign A company representative presents a design for a new wall sign to be displayed on an existing building at 66 Cherry Hill Drive. The sign will be individual illuminated letters with white and burgundy with an illuminated box. The sign will be 60 sq. ft. in size with 9.5” letters, and the box will be 16” deep. Finch suggests a change in the type face for easier readability of the sign. The company representative states that this Beverly facility will be the company’s business office only, not a medical facility. Bruce suggests he fax a new design for the Design Review Board members to review. Haring : motion to approve the proposed wall sign for American Renal Associates, contingent upon the use of individual, illuminated channel letters on the word “Association” in place of the proposed lettering style. Motion seconded by Bruce, all members in favor. Motion carries 3-0. 4. Informal Mattress Discounters – Ben Barr/North Beverly Plaza/Sign Barr presents a design of a proposed wall sign that would have flush mount letters, red with bronze return, mylar bronze trim cap. The total size of the sign is less than the maximum allowed by the zoning ordinance. Finch states that he is unsure whether the other tenants’ signs in the plaza have 18” or 20” high letters. Haring suggests that Barr provide two sign designs for review (one with 18” letters and one with 20” letters) when the company formally submits an application. 5. Minutes of February 2, 2006 Haring: motion to approve the minutes as drafted, seconded by Bruce. All members in favor, no one opposed. Motion carries 3-0. The meeting is adjourned at 7:25 p.m.
