Present: Toby Shindler, Chairman; Neil Olson.
Also present: Kay Fanning, Fran McCaxthy, Torn Scully, She i In. Glowacki.
Toby Shindler presided.
Mr. Shindler reported that Tom Scully now has his contract. The Mayor had
apologized for the delay. The Board of AJdermen had reduced the amount of vacation
from four weeks to two weeks.
Information was presented concerning the other city department heads
comparing the size of the departments budget, number of employees supervised,
whether they supervise a building, and amount of salary. A survey of
librarian's salaries in the northeast was also reviewed. After discussing
the above information it was decided to approach the Board of Aldermen and
request a salary of $36,500. for the Library Director.
Concerning a contract for the A~3si~,Latlt Director, Neil Olson moved to
begin the process of drawing up a ccmtt'act 1'01' the As~,i stant Director by
reviewing the state law, existing ('onLracLs and past practice. Motion
passed. The chairman appointed NeiJ Ol~,on to chair the committee and
Ed Brindle as member.
Tom Scully reported that he has been working on an organizational chart
for the library personnel and would like to make changes in certain
job classifications. Neil Olson suggested that this be submitted in
writing for the committee to review.
A disciplinary policy was also discussed. There is currently no city wide
disciplinary policy in place. Toby Shindler appointed Ed Brindle to work
on this with the Director.
