2004-11-18 City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Board of Health Subcommittee: Date: November 18, 2004 Place: Beverly Council on Aging Board members present: Frank S. Carbone Jr., MD, William J. Alpine, Jr. and Joseph W. Walsh, Jr. Board members absent: Others present: William Burke, Director of Public Health. Recorder: Judith Balboni Chairman Carbone called the meeting to order at 7:30 am. First on the agenda, Kim Bolognese, 8 Gateway Lane who sent in a letter requesting permission to keep (6) hens on her property. The letter was received on October 18, 2004. Mr. Burke notified all abutters of request and four letters of support were received, none against. The Board took the matter under advisement. Later the Board voted unanimously to approve the animal permit as requested. Mr. Burke updated the Board on the Annual Flu Clinic being held November 21,2004. 1000 doses have been received. Strict criteria: Beverly residents only, over age 75 and between ages of 18 -74 with a note from physician regarding chronic illness. Pat Scanlon from Wheelabrator introduced a Blood Pressure monitor exchange program to seniors yesterday at Senior Center. DNA draft regulations were sent to the City Solicitor's office for approval. No response as yet. Recently, Diane Kurkjian, Joe Reale and Bill Burke attended GeoTms training on using PDA for field inspections. Staff has been inputting departmental data and getting familiar with system. The department was notified on November 15,2004 that the Dental Clinic application for licensure was approved for 'self-certification'. Mr. Burke met with Supt. James Hayes to confirm his support for the clinic operation at its current Briscoe School location. The staff has been working on renewals of all annual licenses. They should be in mail by end of week. Announcement of upcoming Red Cross choke-saving classes were included in the food renewal applications. Mr. Burke informed the Board that Pat Zingariello has finalized the Hep A vaccine program for food handlers. Diane, Pat & Bill attended MHOA's annual Yankee Conference in Hyannis. The conference offers numerous seminars on the whole spectrum of public health. Attendees are awarded C.E.U.'s which are needed for license renewals. They found it to be very informative.
