A considerable part of this document is narrative which will, hopefully, give each of you the opportunity to think about the future in your own way. In recent years Beverly has made significant progress in restoring its infrastructure. Recently you made a commitment to continue that process by approving the new High School academic wing. The Council has aided the City’s progress greatly by being open minded to appropriate new growth and taking action which has facilitated that growth. The Council continues to be in a position to foster desirable new growth. For example, the pending zoning change which would allow by special permit downtown buildings up to 75’ in height is a very important consideration for our future and is consistent with both the Master Plan and “Smart Growth.” Favorable action may allow us to perform projects thought unaffordable or to pull forward starting times. Projects such as the middle school are very important to the future of the city and their fate lies with the power in the Council’s hands. Very truly yours, William F. Scanlon, Jr., Mayor Refer to Committee of the Whole #65 March 20, 2006 Honorable City Council City Hall Beverly, MA 01915 Dear Honorable Council: I hereby withdraw the appointment of Norman Ganley as a member of the Disabilities Commission and William Ambrefe as a member of the Cable TV Advisory Commission.
