Ms. Zambernardi called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.
1. Jessica Salon - Steve Jordan/ 280A Cabot Street/ Wall Sign
Mr. Steve Jordan approached the Board on behalf of Jessica Fall with a picture of a vinyl
wall sign to be displayed on the sign band of the building. Finch noted that the sign
appears to be a temporary sign and asked what the DRB's purview is on the matter.
Zambernardi stated that this sign was put up without approval. Jordan stated that Fall
would like to display this sign for now and eventually she would put up a more permanent
wall sign. Zambernardi stated that this sign has been and will be up for more than the 14
day limit which is required by the sign ordinance. She stated that the business owners
were asked to come in for approval of the sign so that it will be legal.
Finch stated his concern that the sign is temporary in nature and will wear over time. He
stated that he would like to see a more permanent sign there and asks that Fall comes back
to the Board sometime in the near future with a more permanent sign.
Jordan stated that he sees these signs throughout the downtown and he does not see why
he should have a time limit. Zambernardi stated that there are sometimes temporary vinyl
signs put up when a business is just opening and that may be what he has seen. She stated
they might also not be the primary wall signs for the business, but temporary banners put
up without approval. Bruce stated that some of the signs they see may not be legal which
means they will also get violation letters in the future.
Finch stated he just does not want to see that sign up for a long time. Jordan agreed to
come back to the Board in 90 days with an application for a more permanent sign.
Mr. Finch moved to accept the wall sign as presented with the condition that the applicant
returns to the DRB within 90 days with an application for a permanent sign. Seconded by
Mr. Haring. Motion carried 4-0.

Mr. Finch asked if 6-foot lettering is used on other signs within the complex. Zambernardi
stated that both Staples and Shaws have lettering of a similar size. She states that the
proposed signs are allowed by zoning.
Mr. Haring moved to accept the wall sign as presented. Seconded by Ms.Bruce. Motion
carried 4-0.
3. Depot Liquors and Depot Diner - John Athanasopoulos/ 23 Enon Street/ Wall
Signs and Freestanding Sign
Ms. Annette Athanasopoulos approached the Board on behalf of her husband with a
proposal for two wall signs and one freestanding sign.
Wall Signs
Athanasopoulos stated that she had the signs revised to meet the comments of the Board
at the last meeting. The Board thanked her for listening to their suggestions.
Finch moved to approved the two wall signs as presented. Seconded by Bruce. Motion
carried 4-0.
Bruce noted that any more wall signs on the building will have to come back to the DRB
for approval.
Freestanding Sign
Athanasopoulos also presented a design of the freestanding sign which will have four
tenant panels and the address on the top. She presented the Board with various colors and
stated she was open to suggestions.
Members reviewed the sign and determined that the sign should have the following colors:
The frame of the sign and the sign post will be Avery's Battleship Gray A8070-0 color.
The backgrounds of the four tenant panels and the lettering for the address "23 Enon Street"
will be Avery's Palm Oyster A8020-0 color.
The top tenant panel will have Avery's Spectra Red color and will read "Garden City Pub".
The second panel below it will have the same red color for letters reading "Depot" and the
Battleship Gray color for the letters reading "Liquors".
So long as the backgrounds of the two bottom tenant panels are Palm Oyster and the lettering
has either the Spectra Red or Battleship Gray colors, those signs would not have to come back
to the Design Review Board for approval.

The Board also requested that the fonts used for the lettering of each business on the tenant
panels match the fonts used for the corresponding wall signs on the building.
Zambernardi stated that there is a zoning question because the sign is a pre-existing
nonconforming sign that must be clarified with Building Commissioner Robert Nelson.
Finch motioned to accept contingent upon the applicant using the above-mentioned color
scheme for the freestanding sign. Should Nelson find that the sign needs zoning approval,
these findings shall be considered a positive recommendation by the Board. Seconded by
Mr. Haring. Motion carried 4-0.
5. Kelly Nissan-Janet Butler/Cabot Street/Signage
Ms. Janet Butler, representing Kelly Nissan, approached the Board with designs for a new
sign package at 420 Cabot Street. These signs would replace all existing signs currently
displayed. She stated she has an application before the Zoning Board of Appeals and that
she is requesting a positive recommendation from the DRB tonight to provide to the ZBA
members.
Members agreed that the sign package is an overall improvement of the site. Members
discussed the mass of the proposed freestanding sign. Butler agreed to reduce the sign to
24 feet in height.
Zambernardi stated that Mr. Kelly has to reduce his window signage and banner signs on
the light poles to conform to the sign ordinance.
Finch moved to accept contingent upon the freestanding sign being reduced to 24 feet in
height, ZBA approval and that the business becomes in compliance with the window
signage and signage on the light poles. Seconded by Mr. Haring. Motion carried 4-0.
5. Minutes of August 4, 2005 and September 1, 2005
Haring moved to accept the minutes of August 4, 2005 and September 1, 2005. Seconded
