Chairman Carbone called the meeting to order at 7:30 a.m.
The Board approved and accepted the minutes of the May 19, 2005 meeting as mailed.
A written request was received from Karahelis Brothers, owners of Colonial Manor-Trafalgar
Apartment complex. Mr. Reale had no issues with the pool from past year. Board voted all in
favor of granting waiver.
Hung Van Dinh, owner of Cindy’s Nails, also a tanning facility had been served a ‘Cease & Desist
Order due to a delinquent permit. He was asked to appear at meeting but no representative
showed. The Board asked Mr. Burke to look further into it.
Carleen Pimental, a massage therapist was also issued a Cease & Desist Order due to delinquent
permit. No representative showed, however, the department received a partial payment from Ms.
Pimental and a letter stating she was out of state and had not been practicing us when she got
back she’d let us know. Mr. Burke will follow up on the issue.
Regarding old business, Mr. Burke furnished the Board members with copies of FY-06 Budget as
given to Mayor and Council. Mr. Burke will be at Public hearing meeting with Council on
Thursday, June 16, 2005.
Mr. Burke introduced to the Board, Ms. Brenda Walter, BU Graduate student, who will be
interning at the Health Department for 20 hours a week thru August 17, 2005. This is being made
possible by a Grant from DPH. Brenda has been accompanying Diane Kurkjian and Joe Reale on
various inspections. She will be collecting water samples at local beaches starting next week. As
part of her practicum she will gather information to draft a well regulation.
Joyce Redford, Program Director of North Shore Area Boards of Health Tobacco Control
Program was present to give an update on program and recent compliance checks. On May 11,
2005, White Hen Pantry, 246 Elliott Street was found to be in violation of selling tobacco product
to a minor. This is the second violation within a 24-month period (3/3/04). The penalty for a
second violation is two hundred ($200) dollars and the suspension of tobacco sales permit for
seven consecutive business days. Mr. Burke sent a certified letter on June 7, 2005 notifying the
storeowner of violation. The suspension shall begin seven days from receipt of certified letter.
Tobacco Control will follow up. The Tobacco Control Grant is up for renewal. Dr. Carbone
signed a letter of support.
Mr. Burke had some updates for the Board.
Mr. Burke & Pat Zingariello were invited to the Beverly Rotary’s June meeting to speak about
the Hepatitis A Immunization Grant for foodservice workers in Beverly Nursing Homes.
Immunization will be concluded this month.
Mr. Burke and Pat Zingariello are working with Neia Illingworth, North Shore/Cape Ann
Emergency Preparedness Coalition, on finalizing Beverly ‘s Emergency Operating Plan.
The Community Wellness Fair for next year has been scheduled for Saturday, April 1, 2006 at the
Vittori-Rocci Post.

Testing of the Beverly beaches will begin on June 22 and be done weekly thru August 31.
Brenda Walter, B.U. graduate student, our intern for the summer will be collecting samples along
with Joe Reale.
The Health Department and Diane Kurkjian held an informational meeting on June 9, 2005for
summer Recreational Camps in Beverly. There are about 25 participating; the first will be opening
within the next couple of weeks.
No meetings are scheduled for July and August. Dates for September-December 2005 will be
announced.
