2005-07-07 Design Review Board July 7, 2005 Design Review Board Date: July 7, 2005 Members Present: Leah Zambernardi, Colleen Bruce, William Finch, Douglas Haring Members Absent: Others Present: Recorder: Diane Presutti Ms. Zambernardi called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. 1. Epiphany Books – David Civitarese/9 Railroad Ave./Projecting Sign Mr. Civitarese approached the Board with a sketch of a sign to be displayed. The sign will be orange lettering with dark brown trim and off white background. The width of the sign is the same width of the existing bracket. Ms. Zambernardi motioned to accept as presented, seconded by Mr. Haring. Motion carried 4-0. 2. Mandrake; Bar-Bistro – Kevin Ennis/252 Cabot Street/Signs Mr. Ennis approached the Board with multiple signs to display on two separate side-by-side store fronts. The two store fronts will become one business displaying two signs. The two signs will be the exact size as the existing two signs previously D’Aldo’s Hair Salon and Mingo Gallery. The signs will have a black background with 23k gold lettering. The Board reviewed the photo of the building and agreed that the architect would prevent him from displaying one longer sign. They also discussed the ordinance which stated the architect of a building must be protected. Mr. Finch suggested to Mr. Ennis that he consider reducing the sign size to 25SF and possibly using individual lettering. He also suggested that the DRB will consult Roy Gelineau, City Solicitor, to clarify the legalities of the ordinance. Ms. Zambernardi also suggested that Mr. Ennis can apply for a variance if he wishes to keep the design as presented. She also stated that she would compose a letter to the ZBA describing the architectural features of the building face. Mr. Ennis showed concern for the length of time it would take to present his request to the ZBA and agreed with Ms. Zambernardi to review his design while she consults with Mr. Gelineau and also Mr. Nelson, Building Inspector. Mr. Ennis agreed to consult Ms. Zambernardi in a weeks time. 3. Russell Chiropractic Center – Ed Juraliwitz (sp)/319 Elliott St./Freestanding Sign Mr. Juraliwitz approached the Board with a design to replace the face of the existing sign. The new face with be yellow and white letters with a red background. The size will be the same as the existing size. Mr. Finch motioned to accept as presented, seconded by Ms. Zambernardi. Motion carried 4-0. 4. Sarah’s Sole – Sarah Polese Reineman/28 West Street/Wall and Window Sign Ms. Reineman approached the Board with a design of black lettering on the facia of the building. She also indicated that the building is set back from the street. Mr. Haring motioned to approved the design as presented, seconded by Mr. Finch. Motion carried 4-0. Ms. Reineman also asked the Board about a freestanding pole in front of the building and asked if she could create a freestanding sign for her and other tenants. The Board advised her to determine who actually owns the pole. If her landlord actually owns the pole then the owner of the building must apply for a variance. 5. Solutions Through Prayer – Janet Clements/197 Cabot Street/Sign Ms. Zambernardi showed the Board the design for a wall sign of white lettering with a red background. No representative was present. Ms. Bruce motioned to accept as presented, seconded by Mr. Haring. Motion carried 4-0. Minutes of June 2 & June 9, 2005 Mr. Finch motioned to accept minutes of June 2 & June 9 contingent upon editing Mr. Haring from the “Members Present” to “Members Absent”, seconded by Ms. Bruce. Motion carried 3-0 Meeting was adjourned at 7:45 p.m.
