Ms. Zambernardi called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.
1. Epiphany Books – David Civitarese/9 Railroad Ave./Projecting Sign
Mr. Civitarese approached the Board with a sketch of a sign to be displayed. The sign will be orange
lettering with dark brown trim and off white background. The width of the sign is the same width of the
existing bracket.
Ms. Zambernardi motioned to accept as presented, seconded by Mr. Haring. Motion carried 4-0.
2. Mandrake; Bar-Bistro – Kevin Ennis/252 Cabot Street/Signs
Mr. Ennis approached the Board with multiple signs to display on two separate side-by-side store fronts.
The two store fronts will become one business displaying two signs. The two signs will be the exact size as
the existing two signs previously D’Aldo’s Hair Salon and Mingo Gallery. The signs will have a black
background with 23k gold lettering.
The Board reviewed the photo of the building and agreed that the architect would prevent him from
displaying one longer sign. They also discussed the ordinance which stated the architect of a building must
be protected.
Mr. Finch suggested to Mr. Ennis that he consider reducing the sign size to 25SF and possibly using
individual lettering. He also suggested that the DRB will consult Roy Gelineau, City Solicitor, to clarify
the legalities of the ordinance.
Ms. Zambernardi also suggested that Mr. Ennis can apply for a variance if he wishes to keep the design as
presented. She also stated that she would compose a letter to the ZBA describing the architectural features
of the building face.
Mr. Ennis showed concern for the length of time it would take to present his request to the ZBA and agreed
with Ms. Zambernardi to review his design while she consults with Mr. Gelineau and also Mr. Nelson,
Building Inspector.
Mr. Ennis agreed to consult Ms. Zambernardi in a weeks time.
3. Russell Chiropractic Center – Ed Juraliwitz (sp)/319 Elliott St./Freestanding Sign
Mr. Juraliwitz approached the Board with a design to replace the face of the existing sign. The new face
with be yellow and white letters with a red background. The size will be the same as the existing size.
Mr. Finch motioned to accept as presented, seconded by Ms. Zambernardi. Motion carried 4-0.
4. Sarah’s Sole – Sarah Polese Reineman/28 West Street/Wall and Window Sign
Ms. Reineman approached the Board with a design of black lettering on the facia of the building. She also
indicated that the building is set back from the street.
Mr. Haring motioned to approved the design as presented, seconded by Mr. Finch. Motion carried 4-0.
Ms. Reineman also asked the Board about a freestanding pole in front of the building and asked if she
could create a freestanding sign for her and other tenants.
The Board advised her to determine who actually owns the pole. If her landlord actually owns the pole
then the owner of the building must apply for a variance.
