2005-06-09 Design Review Board Date: June 9, 2005 Members Present: Leah Zambernardi, Colleen Bruce, William Finch Members Absent: Douglas Haring Others Present: Recorder: Leah Zambernardi Ms. Zambernardi called the meeting to order at 6:50 p.m. . Chianti Restaurant – Richard Marino/285 Cabot Street/Awning 1 Zambernardi notes that review of the signs began at the Board's June 2, 2005 regular meeting. She recaps that the Board identified that the signs would require a variance from the Zoning Board of Appeals. They discussed different design alternatives for signage to identify the restaurant and the dessert and wine bar. At that meeting the Board expressed concern over supporting a variance for more than one line of lettering and for the lettering size with the thought that other designs are possible, which are allowed by Zoning. They also asked Mr. Marino to come back to the Board with drawings that more accurately show how the awnings will be placed on the building. At the June 9, 2005 meeting, the Board offered several alternatives to the awning proposal that conform to Zoning. Ms. Bruce offered several suggestions such as a long awning that covers the windows or barrel awnings. After some discussion, the alternative which seemed most preferable to the Board included: 1) two awnings over either entrance that conform to Zoning with 6-inch lettering on one line; and 2) two projecting right angle signs that identify the two different businesses within Chianti. Zambernardi noted that Mr. Marino might need to discuss whether the restaurant and the dessert and wine bar are separate businesses with Zoning Enforcement Officer Robert Nelson before coming back to the Board with that alternative as a sign proposal. Mr. Marino noted that that alternative may be much more expensive than he can afford. He talks with the Board some about possible facade renovations, Main Streets facade renovation funding program and timing of installing signs. Mr. Marino states that he will further explore his options by speaking with his sign maker to talk about the design alternatives and associated costs and with Rinus Oosthoek at Main Streets and he will come back to the Board at an undetermined time in the future. The Board allowed the sign application to be withdrawn without prejudice and noted that it may be re- submitted at any time in the future at no expense to the applicant. Meeting adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
