2005-01-25 City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Library Trustees Subcommittee: Date: Tuesday, January 25, 2005 7:00 P.M. Place: Beverly Public Library Board members present: Lindsay Diehl, Neil Olson, Kevin O’Reilly, Joanne Panunzio, Helga Senko, and John Young Board members absent: Todd Balf, Kathleen McMahon Others present: Thomas Scully, Anna Langstaff, Michele Mann Recorder: Anna Langstaff John Young presided. Neil Olson made the motion, seconded by Lindsay Diehl, to accept the minutes of December 14, 2004 as read. Motion passed. Public Presentation Michele Mann, Beverly resident and a member of the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners, joined the meeting. Committee Reports Personnel: No report. Administration: No report. Finance: No report. Long Range Planning: No report. Report of the Library Director 1) Current Budget: Tom Scully met with the Mayor to discuss the $100,000 needed to meet the municipal appropriation requirement for state aid. The Mayor plans to send a request for $50,000 to the City Council. The Mayor asked Tom Scully to fund-raise the balance. 2) Monthly Budget Update: Tom Scully reviewed budget line items. 3) American Libraries article: Interview with Lt. Governor Kerry Healy appeared in the latest issue of American Libraries. 4) Certification: The library commissioners voted on the final list of communities eligible to receive state aid. Beverly and Lynn were not on the list. Beverly failed on the amount of money spent on books last year and Lynn failed on the number of hours open last year. As a result, most libraries will not loan to Beverly residents. 5) Statistics: Tom Scully reviewed several statistical reports, such as reciprocal borrowers, circulation, and holdings reports. Communications 1) Letters received from Littleton and Manchester stating that they will not lend to Beverly residents. 2) Friends membership brochure and letter were mailed out in December. Unfinished Business None New Business 1) John Young asked if there were any candidates for the vacant library trustee’s position. 2) Tom thth Scully would like to schedule April board meeting for April 14, the 150 anniversary of the first library trustees meeting. The next regular meeting of the Board will be Tuesday, February 22, 2005 at 7:00 P.M. at the Main Library. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:20 P.M.
