2004-08-11City of Beverly Beautification Committee August 11, 2004 Public Meeting Minutes Members Present: Rod Shropshire, Ellen Todd, Rosalie Kerr Members Absent; Tina Cassidy, Planning Director, Nancy Ormiston, Ann Devereaux 1. Welcome 3:05 p.m. Chairman, Rod Shropshire called the meeting to order at 3:05 p.m. 2. Beverly-Salem Bridge Area Planting 1. The committee plans to meet at the former McDonald's building on Water Street on Thursday, August 12 at 8:30 a.m. to weed the island and plant seasonal flowering plants at the base of the 'Welcome to Beverly' sign. Kerr reported that the plants will be funded by the Friendly Garden Club through its civic projects budget and a Beverly Improvement Society grant for civic projects. Phil Klimowitz's crew has trimmed the trees and Bayberry shrubs. 2. Brief discussion of the Gruppe mural, continued until the next meeting. 3. Committee expressed concern for the security of the former McDonald's building. Possibility of vandalism. 4. Kerr reported on correspondence from the Governor's office regarding mowing of the traffic islands. 2. Treasurer's Report 1. The treasurer will report on the budget at the next meeting. 3. New Business 1. The committee will discuss the city's Design Guidelines at the next meeting. Questions as to implementation and oversight. 2. Discussion of the city's image: 'Garden City'. 3. Concern expressed about poor condition of the former Friendly's building. 4. Suggestions sought for a new project for the coming winter. 4. Adjournment 1. The meeting was adjourned at 3.30 p.m. 2. The meeting will reconvene tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. at the former McDonald's building on Water Street. 3. At the next meeting the committee will discuss its schedule: whether to return to meeting on the third Tuesday of the month or continue meeting on the second Wednesday.
