2003-01-14CITY OF BEVERLY, MASSACHUSETTS
PUBLIC MEETING MINUTES
Board: Beverly Beautification Committee
Date: January 14, 2003
Place: Committee Room, City Hall, 191 Cabot Street
Board Members Present: Jo Lennox, Nancy Ormiston, Lisa McFadden, Ellen Todd,
Alice Lombardi
Absent Members: Rosalie Kerr, Rod Shropshire, Sue Mueller, Elda Turner
Others Present: Planning Director Debra Hurlburt
Hurlburt stated that she would like to discuss further the improvements to the exterior of
City Hall. The Committee discussed that perhaps it could undertake window boxes on
st
the 1 floor and the balcony and perhaps we can have businesses adopt a window box to
help pay for this. Nancy Ormiston stated that she will contact someone from either
Barter Brothers or Chapman’s to help in the design of window boxes to the building. The
Committee then discussed landscaping around City Hall and how it needs much
improvement. The Board remembered that a year or two ago, a proposal was before the
City Council for the removal of several trees on the property and it was defeated so if the
Committee wants to reopen that issue it can make its recommendations to the Mayor.
Hurlburt then asked for an update from Ormiston on the Traffic Island Program.
Ormiston reported that she has not yet heard from the program person in Peabody but
will continue to try.
Hurlburt then asked about what the Committee wanted to do with Community Pride Day.
The Committee stated that they would like to undertake a Community Pride Day on May
31, 2003 (please check date) and it would be great to focus on City Hall as this is where
the public gathers to discuss issues of community. The Committee stated that it could
take this up at our next meeting as we are missing some members that we would like to
be part of the discussion.
Hurlburt stated that Rod Shropshire is unable to make morning meetings and that she
would like to get an alternative date so that he can attend. The Committee decided that
3:00 p.m. in the afternoon would fit into everyone’s schedule.
The Committee determined that the next meeting would be held on February 11, 2003 at
3:00 p.m.
The meeting adjourned at 9:30 a.m.
