2003-09-09CITY OF BEVERLY, MASSACHUSETTS PUBLIC MEETING MINUTES Board: Beverly Beautification Committee Date: September 9, 2003 Place: Committee Room, City Hall, 191 Cabot Street Board Members Present: Rosalie Kerr, Alice Lombardi, Rod Shropshire, Ellen Todd Absent Members: Jo Lennox, Lisa McFadden, Susan Mueller, Nancy Ormiston, Elda Turner Others Present: Planning Director, Debra Hurlburt 1. Discussion regarding work left to be done at City Hall a) Window treatments The committee is seeking donations to cover the cost of the window treatments. $150 per window. b) Picture framing Mike Tracchia will obtain estimates. Available funds: $500. c) Washington’s portrait restoration Pending an appraisal of the portrait. d) Mayor portraits Hurlburt displayed the brass plaques, which have been made for the portraits of the mayors. e) Other a) Third floor hallway There will be benches and a table for documents rather than papers being posted on the walls. b) Beverly quilt A request has been received to display the quilt in City Hall. The committee is seeking an appropriate location. c) Gruppe mural Removal and restoration is in process. Estimated cost is $30,000. d) Clock Desjardins has donated a wall clock for the Council Chambers. 2. Update on tree removal Currently on hold. 3. Review of traffic island list The committee reviewed the status of the city’s numerous traffic islands. Todd and Kerr reported improvement in the condition of several islands and Todd presented updated photographs. 4. Next project The committee discussed obtaining appropriate artwork to display in Council Chambers. The committee would like to display framed historical documents relating to the history of the City and decided to consult the Beverly Historical Society on this matter. 5. Approval of Minutes of August 12, 2003 6. Adjourn The meeting was adjourned at 4:00 p.m. The next meeting of the Committee will be held on October 7, 2003 at 3:00 p.m. in the Committee Room at City Hall.
