2002-11-12CITY OF BEVERLY PUBLIC MEETING MINUTES Board: Beverly Beautification Committee Date: November 12, 2002 Place: Beverly Public Library, 32 Essex Street Board Members Present: Nancy Ormiston, Rosalie Kerr, Rod Shropshire, Alice Lombardi, Ellen Todd and Elda Turner Absent Members: Others Present: Councilor Timothy Flaherty, Planning Director Debra Hurlburt Hurlburt opened the meeting and thanked everyone for attending. She stated that this is a very exciting Board to work with and one that she looks forward to being a part of. Hurlburt asked everyone to introduce himself or herself. Councilor Tim Flaherty welcomed everyone and thanked them for their willingness to serve on this Board. He stated that he conceived the idea of this Board many years ago and is happy to report that it is finally come to fruition. He stated that his idea of the Committee is to have this board make recommendations to the Mayor for improvement to areas in Beverly. For instance, planting flowers under Welcome to Beverly Signs or removing too many signs that clutter an area. He stressed that he would welcome any suggestions and looks forward to the anticipated improvements. Hurlburt asked the Committee for some suggestions for improvements. The Committee discussed ideas such as improvements to the Traffic Island program, interior and exterior improvements to City Hall, Street Sweeping, planting flowers under Welcome to Beverly Signs, clean up on entrance corridors, and holding a Community Pride Day. The Board then discussed good times for the Committee to met and it was determined that morning meetings may work best. The Committee agreed that the next meeting should be held on December 9, 2002 at 8:30 a.m. at Beverly City Hall. Hurlburt thanked everyone for attending. The meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
