1689-12-02[Town Meeting December 2, 1689] At a general town meeting warned according to law of the 2th day of December 1689, Lieutenant John Dodge was chosen Representative for the Town of Beverly to attend the service of General Court convening at Boston the 3 day of this instant December. At the same town meeting Thomas Woodberry senor., Nehemiah Grover & Mark Haskell senor. were chosen a committee to take an account of Mr. Hale senor what disbursements he has been at in the finishing his house exempting his new addition & said committee are to make report of said account to the next town meeting after the date thereof. At the same town meeting it was voted & agreed that such persons who have not yet been seated in the meeting house they shall be seated according to the rates they pay to the ministry. At the same town meeting it was also voted that there should be a town rate made amounting to 40lb. A third part thereof to be paid in money for the defraying of the town debts. At the same town meeting it was also voted and agreed that the Selectmen & Committee aforesaid should give leave unto such persons as have occasion to build seats so as may be most commodious in the assembly provided that they entrench not upon or do not damnify any other seats. Which shall be judged of & determined by said Selectmen & Committee.
