1687-09-05[Town Meeting September 5, 1687] th At a General Town meeting on the 5 day of September 1687: said: town inhabitants then convened did consider of a matter of difference between Mr. Jeremiah Hubbard once minister in & of said Town said Hubbard laying claim unto Mr. Hale’s house & other debts from said Town said inhabitants did put to vote & did agree that ye then Selectmen with the assistance of Capt. William Raymond, Ensign Corning, Corporal Thomas West and John Raymond senior as a committee to discourse said Hubbard’s or his agent about & concerning the matter in difference and to make their return unto the town of their doings therein. At the same town meeting it was voted & agreed-upon that the then Selectmen should make a rate for the gathering and paying of Mr. John Pearly for his service done for & in our town as a schoolmaster. At the same town meeting it was considered that whereas Capt. William Raymond was chosen th commissioner at a town meetings held on the 8 day of August 1687 and there seemed some things dubious to the now meeting how said commissioner should agitate with the rest of the Commissioners of our county who are to meet at our Shire town on the first Wednesday in September 1687 and it was voted and agreed-upon that he should act and do as the major part of said commissioners. At the same town meeting Tobias Trow was chosen to be pound keeper in our town or Hayward until further order and to have what the law allows for pound creators.
