1687-08-08[Town Meeting August 8, 1687] th 8 : August 1687: at a General Town meeting by virtue of the Country Treasurer’s warrant th bearing date the 20 day of July 16 87 for the choosing of a Commissioner cool with the selectmen of our town are to make a list of the males in said town from 16 years and upwards & to rate each such male – 1s-0d per head & 1d per li for estates in said town for home was chosen Captain William raiment, Commissioner. At the same town meeting William Elliott by his agent did request the said town meeting or inhabitants of said town then there, to exchange a small parcel of land with said town which was granted and Ensign John Patch, Zachariah Herrick & Nehemiah Grover were then chosen as a committee to perfect said matter. At the same town meeting Richard Ober made his address unto the inhabitants then convened that he might exchange a parcel of land which he the said Ober bought of Jonathan Byles so much for so much of the town common and so it be no detriment to said town and it was granted and there were chosen Zachariah Herrick and Nehemiah Grover to consummate the business for said town and said Ober. Whereas Mr. John Pearly was agreed with by our town at a town meeting held on the 2 day of November 1686 for a schoolmaster from thence unto one whole year said Pearly did at this time th & meeting on the 8 day of August 1687 request that he might be dismissed two months before the expiration of said year and it was put to vote and granted to set Pearly provided said Pearly do abate proportionately of his stipend or wages. thth Whereas we under named were chosen as a committee the 8 of August 1687 we on the 9 day of said month did perform what we were chosen for as concerning the exchange of a small parcel of land of William Elliott’s and the town according to our best judgments in equity as witness our hands.
