1686-03-09[Town Meeting March 9, 1686] 9 March: 1685: at a meeting of the freeman Lieutenant Thorndike was chosen commissioner to carry in the votes for the nomination of marshalls to the Shire town according to law. 9 March 1685/6: at a general town meeting legally warned, it was voted that the selectmen have power and are designed to take care to procure a bell of three hundred weight: and also to improve the old bell: so far as it will go for: the payment of it. At the same town meeting upon Richard Ober’s motion in exchange of a parcel of land near unto John Stone junior for a parcel adjoining to the said Ober’s land: there was a committee chosen to take a survey of said lands: and make report to the town, namely Ensign Corning, John Giles, John West jun. Zachariah HerrickMark Haskell At the same meeting it was granted to Tobias Trow that acre of the town’s land adjoining to his house for his use provided that he make a sufficient pound upon it and maintain it upon the ground and no longer and he is to keep the pound in repair for the town’s use from year-to-year. Granted to Edward Dodge the liberty of setting up a gate upon the highway by George Hull’s: to stop his sheep. Also granted unto Mr. Hale a small parcel of land adjoining to his own land within the general fence.
