The low bid was $1,909,595 from the firm of United Metering, Inc. of Harrington Place, New Jersey. Their bid is a combination of Badger meters and liTon ERrS {Encoder, Receiver Transmitter) which can be read at a speed of 8,000 meters per day from a moving vehicle. There are over one million of these combined meters and ERrS operating in North America today. United Metering, Inc., who will do the installation, has installed since 1993 more than 210,000 meters in New York City alone. I hereby request that your Honorable Council appropriate $2.1 million in cash from the unreserved fund balance at SESD to account "Capital Project Fund - Water Meter Replacement."
