1683-02-05[Town Meeting February 5, 1683] th At a general town meeting the 5 12 mo 1682 it was voted there shall be a town rate forthwith made by the selectmen of 30 £ one third whereof to be paid in money. thth At a general town meeting the 5 of the 12 1682. It was voted that no person whatsoever belonging to the town or that shall belong to the town shall within the space of two years next following the date hereof fall any tree or trees upon our town’s common for firewood under the penalty of twenty shillings per tree to be levied by the constable by warrant from the selectmen. 2dly. It was voted that no person shall fall any tree or trees for building or fencing or any occasion whatsoever but what he shall have license from the selectmen to fell under the penalty of twenty shillings per tree to be distrained by the constable by warrant from the selectmen. At the same meeting 5:12:1682 John Lovett jun., Joseph Lovett, Jonathan Boyles & Mark Haskell were chosen and deputed to see to the execution of the above written orders about wood and timber and are to have the one half of the penalty provided in said orders for their pains and to pay the other half to the town. At the same town meeting it was agreed and voted that no jaded horse or mare should go on the common not above one of one man’s at one time upon the penalty of the forfeiture of the jade one half to the man ordered to look after this matter the other half to the town & the persons deputed for this work are John Raymond jun., Richard Woodbury & George Hull & this to be observed from the thth 16 of April to the 16 of October 1683. At the same town meeting it was agreed & voted that Joseph Hibbard should exchange about an acre of land with the town near his house where he now lives & William Dodge malster & Nehemiah Grover were appointed to see it done to the town’s best advantage. William Dodge & Nehemiah Grover according to the town vote have done that work they were deputed for betwixt the town & Joseph Hibbard on the 28 of Feb. 1682. At the same town meeting February 5, 1682 it was agreed on & voted that William Dodge, maltser & Nehemiah Grover should view a piece of land of the town and make return thereof to the selectmen in order to sell unto James Taylor about a quarter of an acre. At the same town meeting Feb. 5: ’82 it was agreed on & voted that John Clarke should have two acres of land given him next to David Perkins, his land, near William Clark’s his house, in lieu th of two acres given him in ye 31 of the 11 month’81, upon the Rocky Hill twixt the land of Lieut.
