1678-11-05[Town Meeting November 5,1678]
At the same town meeting November 5,1678 John Pride & Solomon Cole sued to the town
for half an acre of land a piece at Snake Hill and it was granted by the town.
5: 9 mo. 1678. It was voted by the town that John Edwards shall have three pounds paid him
by the Constable out of the town rate for killing of three wolves he hath already killed, it is likewise
further agreed in voted that whosoever of our town shall kill a wolf or wolves in our town shall be
allowed out of the town stock 20s. per head.
5: 9 mo. 1678. It was agreed in voted for preservation of timber and wood.
1. That if any man shall fall any tree or trees upon our Common and not cut them off
into lengths for his use within one month after such felling it shall be lawful for any others to
take and make use of such trees.
2. That whosoever shall fall a tree or trees upon the Common and shall not within
two months after such felling, cut up such trees and fetch them away both body and top for
their own or the town’s use, shall forfeit for every tree felled and not improved according to
the intent of this order, five shillings per tree. But no timber or wood is to be sold out of the
town under penalty as is provided in our former order.
5: 9 mo. 1678. Granted to William Cleaves three quarters of an acre of swamp near his house
on the western side of his own land and John Dodge sen. and John Hill is ordered to lay it out.

At the same town meeting 5 9 mo. 1678 Ensign Corning, Sgt. Hill, John Dodge Sen.,
Nehemiah Grover, Exercise Conant & John Lovett were chosen and appointed to layout such town
highways as they shall find the town have necessity of and likewise the fore named men are appointed
to take survey of the bounds of particular properties belonging to the town and adjoining to our
Commons that particular persons may have their bounds recorded and our Commons not infringed
and hereof they are to make return to the selectmen from time to time as they shall proceed.
5: 9:1678 voted that the selectmen shall manage the business of the town’s in the case of
difference between Wenham and us.
