1675-08-23It was agreed at a public town meeting August the 23d ‘75 that John Sampson doth give & quit claim unto the town of Beverly 4 acres of land for a school house lying by the highway bounded on one side by the land of Robert Hibbard on the other side by the land of Richard Haynes & butting against the highway in the lieu whereof the town give & grant unto John Sampson. [In the original the above 8 lines are crossed out & the following is substituted] th It is agreed at a public meeting August 29 ‘75 that John Sampson living in Beverly shall have twelve acres of land which is now in common for the full payment of four acres of land which is adjoining to the country highway butting upon Osmund Trask’s land westerly, the north Robert Hibbard, the south next Richard Haynes & his 4 acres of land in premises to be delivered by the said John Sampson to the selectmen of the same town of Beverly within von fortnight according to law it is also to be understood that the same John Sampson shall have his land layed out unto him by the same selectmen of the same town & it is also understood that the said John Sampson have free liberty by the same town to have 12 acres of land beyond the farm of Mr. Thorndike which was once called Mr. Amery’s & to come no nearer – except he think it convenient to take it adjoining to the land of Nathaniel Stone bounding upon Turtle Pond.
