1674-11-05th At a general town meeting legally warned the 5 of November 1674. William Rayment chosen Constable for the year ensuing. At the same meeting there was chosen for selectmen to order the affairs of the town. Capt. LathropWilliam Dodge sen. Lieut. DixseyPaul Thorndike Ensign Corning At the same meeting Peter Woodberry chosen to serve upon the jury of trials at the next County Court to be held at Salem upon the last third of this present month. At the same meeting Andrew Elliott & John Lovett jun. chosen collectors to gather in the rate made for Mr. Hale’s maintenance and firewood. Mr. Samuel Hardy chosen Clerk of the writs for this town. It was agreed with John Dodge sen. John Sallows, William Dodge jun., William Rayment, Henry Herrick, Paul Thorndike to provide Mr. Hale his firewood for the year ensuing for which they are to be paid 6S. per cord out of the rate made for Mr. Hale his maintenance and fire wood. At the same town meeting of the 5 November 1674 it was agreed upon and voted first that there shall as soon as conveniently may be a school house built that shall likewise be for a watch house. Secondly that the said house shall be set up upon the town’s land by the meeting house. It was likewise voted that the said schoolhouse shall be built 20 foot long & 16 foot wide with 9 foot stud & that the selectmen shall agree with a carpenter to build the house and make the town rate & see the house paid for out of the town rate.
