1673-10-27th At a town meeting the 27 of October 1673 Thomas Woodberry chosen constable for the year ensuing. At the same meeting it was agreed with Lott Conant, John Dodge sen., William Dodge junior, Henry Herrick, Peter Woodberry & Paul Thorndike to provide Mr. Hale his fire wood for the ensuing year at 6S. per cord for which they are to be paid out of the rate made for Mr. Hale his maintenance & fire wood. At the same meeting Isaac Hull sen. & Thomas West chosen collectors to gather the rate for Mr. Hale his maintenance & fire wood. th At the same meeting of the 27 of October 1673 it was voted that John Sampson shall have that parcel of swamp lying by the place called the outlet within the general fence & between the said general fence & the land of Humphrey Woodberry it being about 3 acres by computation, the said Sampson is to clear it to have it the first seven years from the date hereof rent free & afterwards the said Sampson is to pay forty shillings per the year rent for it in current pay of the country somewhere in the town at the appointment of the Selectmen from year to year & so to enjoy it peaceably & without molestation with all the profits, privileges and appurtenances thereto belonging to him and his heirs forever he or they paying the aforesaid rent of forty shillings a year.
