1671-08-17[August 17, 1671] th At a town meeting the 17 of August 1671, Richard Brackenbury chosen to coyne with the selectmen in making the county rate & commissioned to carry it to the shire town. It is agreed and voted that Nathaniel Hayward shall make the meeting house strong and tight, with a sufficient floor & a new turret according to his own discretion & to be paid for his work by a town rate. Voted by the town that the Selectmen shall make the said rate to pay him & if they cannot agree, to chose men on both sides to arbitrate the case. It is ordered that there shall be a rate made to make provision for powder & shot & ammunition according as the law requires by the Selectmen. It is voted by the town that Mr. Roger Conant, Lieutenant Dixsy & Richard Brackenbury are chose to join with the selectmen to see all married persons in the meeting house respectively.
