1669-12-18[December 18, 1669] At a town meeting by the inhabitants of Beverly being legally warned there were by vote orderly chosen Capt. Thomas LathropMr. Roger Conant Nicholas WoodberryJohn Rayment, sen. & Samuel Corning sen. to order the affairs & concernments of the town for the year ensuing. At the same time it is agreed upon by the said inhabitants that Capt. LathropHumphrey Woodberry, Mr. ConantSamuel Corning, sen. Wm. Dodge, sen.& Josiah Roots, sen. Shall repair into the town of Salem on Monday next December ‘69 to treat with the [illegible] General [illegible] Thomas Picton being damnified in his field by a country highway lying between Manchester and Salem Ferry, we, Wm. Dodge sen., John Rayment sen., John West & John Patch, deputed by the town of Beverly to lay out highways for conveniences have allowed the said Thomas Picton, in satisfaction for his damage, one parallel of land not exceeding 2 acres adjoining unto his land called Long Hill & lying upon the bounds of Nathaniel Stone which were the bounds formerly of Mr. William Browne of Salem to have, hold & enjoy the same forever.
