the 10 day of March 1783.
Larkin Thorndike Esq. was chosen Moderator of said meeting.
Voted. That the Town meeting be adjourned to two o’clock in the afternoon to this place and the
Moderator adjourned the meeting accordingly.
Town meeting met according to adjournment at 2 o’clock p.m. and proceeded to business of said
meeting at as followeth.
Voted that they will proceed in the same way and manner in choosing their Selectmen and Assessors

as they did at their annual March meeting on the 11 of March 1782 which is as followeth:
That each district shall have the nomination of their Selectmen and Assessors by each District
repairing by itself and their agreeing upon some person to be by them nominated and the Town to
choose the same if they see cause.
Voted. That all Town officers shall be chosen by hand vote, so-called.
Then each District in said Town repaired by themselves and agreed upon some person for their
Selectmen and Assessors was nominated by them for the purpose. And the several persons hereafter
named were chosen to serve in the several respective offices annexed to each of their names for the
year ensuing as followeth. Viz.

Voted that each Selectman and Assessor shall be allowed and paid six shillings per day for each day
they spend in the service of the Town the current year.

Voted that the Town Treasurer shall have three pence per pound for receiving and paying the Town’s
money the current year.

Voted. That the swine should go at large the year ensuing being yoked and ringed as the law directs.
Voted. That the request of Asa Brown and others be dismissed.
Voted. That the Town will mend their highways the current year by a tax on the polls and estates of
the inhabitants and that the method and regulations of repairing the highways the ensuing year
be the same as has been practiced for several years past.
Voted. That the some of two hundred pounds be assessed and raised on the polls estates of the
inhabitants of this Town for the purposes of repairing the highways the current year.
Voted. That 6/ be allowed to each man per day performing a good day’s work.
Voted. That 18/ be allowed to a man and for good cattle doing and performing a good days work
on the highways and all of the labor in that proportion be ensuing year.
Voted. That Mr. Nathan Dane be hereby appointed as their agent to answer to the presentment at
the next Court of the General Sessions of the Peace to be holden at Ipswich on the first
Tuesday of April next for their not setting up and maintaining a grammar school in said Town
as the law directs.
Voted. That their Selectmen for the ensuing year be and are hereby appointed as their agents with
full power and authority to settle all disputes with the claimers of the Town’s Landing at Frost
Fish Brook, so-called & prosecute and defend the Town’s interest in said Landing to final
issue in law with full power to substitute some person or persons under them for the above
said purpose as they shall think it necessary or expedient.

Voted. That the Town Meeting be adjourned to Friday the 14 instant at 3 o’clock afternoon and
the Moderator adjourned the meeting accordingly.

At a legal Meeting of the Inhabitants of the Town of Beverly Mar. 10 1783 for the purpose of
choosing Grand Jurymen to serve at the General Sessions of Peace etc.

Voted that said meeting be adjourned to Friday the 14 day of March instant at four o’clock
afternoon for that purpose and said meeting was adjourned accordingly.

At a Legal Meeting of the Inhabitants of the Town of Beverly March 14 1783 being on adjournment
for the choice of Jurors.
Mr. William Green & Mr. Jonathan Dodge was chosen to serve on the Grand Jury at the Court of the
General Sessions of the Peace to be holden at Ipswich on the first Tuesday of April next and at the
Several Courts of the General Sessions of the Peace successively to be holden there for one year.

being on adjournment from the 10 instant.
Larkin Thorndike Esq. the formal Moderator of said meeting being absent, Josiah batch of her Esq.
was chosen to serve Moderator in his world.
The votes for a County Treasurer was brought in and sealed up as the law directs.
Capt. Elias Smith was excused from serving Constable the ensuing year.
John Dane was chosen to serve as Constable the year ensuing in Bald Hill District.
Voted. That Wells Standley be excused from serving as Constable and William Herrick Jr. be chosen
constable in his room, it going for said Wells Standley’s turn.
Voted. That Herbert Woodbury be excused from serving Constable the ensuing year.
Voted. That Capt. Joseph Rae should serve in the office of Constable the ensuing year Farm Ward.
Voted. That Dea. Robert Roundy be excused from serving Warden the ensuing year.
Voted. That Hasadiah Smith should serve in the office of Warden the ensuing year, Dea. Roundy
being excused.

Voted. That the Town Meeting be adjourned to Thursday the 20 instant at 2 o’clock afternoon and
the meeting was adjourned accordingly.

Hasadiah Smith was excused from serving Warden the year ensuing and William Obear was chosen
to serve in the office of Warden the year ensuing.
Town Meeting dissolved.
