1783-05-06[Town Meeting May 6, 1783] Essex, S. S. To Mr. William Herrick, Jr., one of the constables of the Town of Beverly. Greeting. In the name of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts you are hereby required forth with to notify and warn the freeholders and other inhabitants of said Town that are qualified according to the law to th vote in town affairs to assemble and meet together on Friday the 16 day of May instant at three o’clock in the afternoon at the stated place for holding of town meetings in said Town. 1ly. To determine what sum of monies they will grant to be assessed and raised on the poles and the estates of said town for the purposes of paying the town’s debts and defraying the necessary charges arising within the same. 2ly. To see what instructions the Town will give to their Treasurer relative to his discharging of the executions out against the Town and for to see what measures they will come into for the more speedy bringing into the Treasurer the outstanding taxes and for to see what ways and measures they will come into relative to any of the above said affairs and act thereon as they in their wisdom shall think best. 3ly. To choose a warden in the room of William Obear, he refusing to serve. 4ly. To see if they will grant William and Israel Green liberty to work out their highway taxes the current year on the way between their dwelling house and the country road. 5ly. To take under consideration a letter from the committee of the Town of Boston relative to the return of the Tories & and act thereon as they shall think proper. 6ly. To see if the Town will turn the course of the water that runneth down the ferry way so-called some other way down to the sea and act thereon as they shall think proper.
