1781-03-08At a Legal Meeting of the Inhabitants of the town of Beverly Marge eighth 1781. Jonathan Conant Esq. chosen Moderator. Voted. That the Town approves of the proceedings of their Committee in procuring men for their Town out of the State of New Hampshire but not to proceed any further in that way until they shall be further satisfied they shall hold those men for this town. Voted. That a Committee be appointed to borrow sufficient hard money to pay all such soldiers as are now engaged to serve for this Town and give their notes on interest in behalf of the Town for the same which note shall be received in payment by the Collector of any of the next taxes at the current exchange when the said taxes become due and if the notes are larger than the person’s tax, the Collector to pay and discharge the same. Committee appointed isCapt. Joseph Rae, Lieut. Samuel Cole, Mr. William Green, Jonathan Conant Esq., Capt. George Cabot, Capt. James Lovett, Capt. Caleb Dodge, Mr. Thomas Hovey, Mr. Mark Dodge Jr., Mr. Joseph Corning, Capt. Nathan Leech, Lt. Bartholomew Trask.. Then the meeting was dissolved.
