1781-02-06th At a Legal Meeting of the Inhabitants of the Town of Beverly February the 61781. Josiah Batchelder Esq. was chosen Moderator. th Voted that the Committee appointed by the Town on the 20 of December last for to procure the men sent for from this town to fill up the Continental Army for three years or during the present war be enlarged to the number of seven and that said Committee be further empowered in behalf of the Town to open [illegible] and appoint some person or persons under them to procure said men and make them reasonable allowance for their services and come into any measures for procuring of said men so they shall think will be most for the benefit of the Town. Voted. The Capt. John Francis, Capt. William Bartlett, Capt. George Cabot and Mr. Joseph Baker be joined to the above said Committee to make up their number to 7 as above said. Voted. That said committee be empowered to exchange such sums of paper money for hard money as they shall think will be most for the good of the Town. th Voted. That the Town meeting be adjourned to Thursday the 15 day of Feby. instant at two o’clock after noon and the meeting was adjourned accordingly. At a Legal Meeting of the Inhabitants of the Town of Beverly February 151781 being on adjournment th from the 6 instant. Voted. That their Town Treasurer be empowered in the name and behalf of the Town to hire on interest is sum of one thousand pounds in hard money for one year for the purposes of procuring the men sent for from this Town to serve in the Continental Army for three years or during the War and give his obligation in behalf of the Town for payment of the same. Then the meeting was dissolved.
