1781-06-25th At a legal meeting of the inhabitants of the Town of Beverly June 25 1781. ndnd Mr. William Trask 2, Joshua Ellinwood Jr., John Batchelder Jr., Samuel Woodberry 2 was chosen to serve on the Petit Jury at the Court of the General Sessions of the Peace and Inferior Court nd of Common Pleas to be holden at Salem on the 2 Tuesday of July next. th At a legal meeting of the Freeholders and other Inhabitants of the Town of Beverly on the 25 day of June 1781. Capt. James Lovett was chosen Moderator of said meeting. th Voted. That the £ 15,000 granted to be raised on the polls & estates within said Town on the 12 of March last for the purpose of repairing Highways within said Town be reconsidered. Voted. That the sum of £ 200, hard money be assessed and raised on the polls estates of this Town for the purposes of repairing the highway in this Town the current year to be paid in gold or silver or in other currency equivalent thereto at the time of payment. Voted. That the Constables be directed to receive those monies of the Town that is not collected in the following manner viz. In the new emission at twelve pound per dollar and the old emission only in the way of change where the sum received in that money is less than one dollar in new emission and in that case to receive the old currency after the rate of eighty for one of the new emission. Voted. That Thomas Foster be Pound Keeper the current year in room of Osman Trask refusing to serve. Voted. That Capt. Isaac Chapman, Capt. Joseph Rae and Lieut. Caleb Balch be a Committee in behalf of this Town to procure the militia sent for from the Town to go to Rhode Island in the best manner they can at their discretion and the Selectmen are directed to do draw sufficient sums of money out of their treasurer as will enable the Committee to perform that service and said Committee to be accountable for the money they receive.
