1780-10-09At a meeting of the Inhabitants of the Town of Beverly legally qualified to vote for the choice of
Representative to the Great and General Court agreeable to the new form of government on Monday

the 9 day of October 1780, the Selectmen set as regulators of said meeting as the law directs and
th
the Town meeting was adjourned to Tuesday the 10 instant at 4 o’clock afternoon at that place to
meet.
At a legal meeting of the Freeholders and other Inhabitants of the Town of Beverly that were
th
qualified according to law to vote in Town affairs on Monday the 9 day of October 1780.
Col. Larkin Thorndike was chosen Moderator.
Voted. That the sum of forty thousand pounds be forthwith assessed and raised on the polls and
estates within this Town for the purposes of procuring the beef sent for to this Town by
th
government, agreeable to a resolve of the General Court of the 25 of September last and for
the procuring the blankets, shoes, shirts and stockings sent for to this Town agreeable to a
st
resolve of the General Court of the 21 of April last.

Voted. That the Town meeting the adjourned to the 10 day of October instant at 3 o’clock in the
afternoon to meet at the place and the meeting was adjourned accordingly.

Beverly October 9 1780.
We, the Subscribers, Selectmen of the Town of Beverly do hereby nominate and appoint Simon
Lovett, Benjamin Batchelder, John Fielder, William Herrick Jr. & George Raymond Jr. to be wood
corders within this Town the ensuing year and the fees that they are to demand and receive is forty-
eight shillings per cord till further order of the Selectmen.

vote in Town affairs on the 10 day of October 1780 being on adjournment
Voted. The Selectmen be a Committee in behalf of the Town to transact the whole affair relative to
the procuring of the beef sent for by government or pay the money raised for the purpose to
the Committee appointed to receive the same agreeable to a resolve of the General Court in
the best manner they can for the benefit of the Town and for to be accountable for the same.
Voted. That the affair relative to the Hon. Richard Derby Esq. paying his taxes in this Town be
referred to the Assessors of this Town to settle the same with the Town of Salem or the said
Derby by leaving the same to reverence or by prosecuting the affair to effect in the law as they
shall think best for the Town.
At a legal meeting of the Inhabitants of the Town of Beverly that were qualified according to law to

vote in the choice of Representatives to the General Court on Tuesday the 10 day of October 1780
being on adjournment.
Tthe Selectmen set as regulators at said meeting.
Col. Larkin Thorndike and Jonathan Conant Esq. were elected and deputed to serve for and represent
him in the session & sessions of the General Court or Assembly appointed to be convened, held and
kept for the government service at the State House in Boston upon the last Wednesday of October
instant. The said persons being chosen by the major part of the electors present at said meeting.
